Who | Garrett and you!
What | The Master Thief lurks around in the shadows
Where | Around the Capitol
When | Just before the Crowning
Warnings | tbd
It's been a couple of weeks since he was killed in the arena. As far as he could tell, the game was essentially over, which meant it was definitely time to get out and track down some essential thieving tools. He'd agreed to show Ellis the ropes, after all, and their target had to be back in the city by now. Unfortunately, the natives here hadn't been too wild about talking to him about anything other than the arena, least of all about anything that might lead him to the black market or where he can find so much as a good set of lock picks. Or whatever people used to break in around here.
And so, he finds himself slinking in the alleys, looking no more significant than the shadows and the garbage strewn around as he listens to passerby. Every city had its scummy characters, and they were usually drawn to the alleys like flies to spoiled fish.

"Spare me the holier-than-thou crap. You didn't hesitate when it came to killing Ellis once you knew it was you or him."

And he means every word of that. Was he proud of himself for killing Ellis? No, but he wasn't going to beat himself up, either. It happened, it needed to happen, and that was that. He wished it hadn't needed to happen, but that didn't change the facts.
"I'm willing to bet that you would have done the same."

There's tension between her and Ellis now, ever since he tried his hand at being a goodwill ambassador for The Fuckhead Douchepublic of Nick, and all he managed to do as far as she was concerned was get bad blood on his hands. Still, knowing he died at Garrett's hands doesn't make her grateful, like some debt's been repaid or some common ground has been struck. It doesn't make her feel anything besides that her initial assessment of the thief was right.
He's a survivor, someone who won't hesitate to do what it takes to stay alive, and that makes him a threat. It's not a hard thing to recognize when surviving's been her game for years now.
That's why she glares when he says it's something she'd do too. She draws herself up with her arms crossed, sharp at every angle.
"If it were you? Sure."

He shoos the cat off his lap and hops up into a crouch on the garbage can's lid. It barely even wobbles at the sudden shift in weight.

She hopes he'll go crashing through the lid into the garbage when he shifts in position. When that doesn't happen, it seems as good a time as any to lob him with the crumbled bag under her arm. He is perched on top of the alley's dumpster, after all.
Whether it hits him or not, she doesn't wait to find out. She's done here.
"Have fun with your trash."
