Who | Garrett and you!
What | The Master Thief lurks around in the shadows
Where | Around the Capitol
When | Just before the Crowning
Warnings | tbd
It's been a couple of weeks since he was killed in the arena. As far as he could tell, the game was essentially over, which meant it was definitely time to get out and track down some essential thieving tools. He'd agreed to show Ellis the ropes, after all, and their target had to be back in the city by now. Unfortunately, the natives here hadn't been too wild about talking to him about anything other than the arena, least of all about anything that might lead him to the black market or where he can find so much as a good set of lock picks. Or whatever people used to break in around here.
And so, he finds himself slinking in the alleys, looking no more significant than the shadows and the garbage strewn around as he listens to passerby. Every city had its scummy characters, and they were usually drawn to the alleys like flies to spoiled fish.

"I doubt it. But I might have something that might."
He hoped the card he'd managed to purchase from a suitably shady man in a properly sketchy backroom of a seedy bar. He had a knack for finding the right people, and he hoped it hadn't failed him here.
"If that fails, I can try picking a guard's pocket. Or you could charm your way in. If the shit hits the fan, though, I say we run."

"I doubt the guards will be tha' vulnerable."
Seeing the Army's precautions put El on edge around the Peacekeepers.

At least the coast seems clear, anyway. With no time to waste, Garrett slinks into the hallway.
"Which door is his?"
no subject
Which pointed to a very specific door. There was a part of the mechanic that regretted this adventure, that he should have known better. So he tries to knock on the door, softly mind you, in case his friend had one of those hangovers.
"I...huh...can't do this to a hung-over man, it ain't right," he wavered.
FFFF Sorry about the super lateness!
"I can. It's too late to back out, anyway."
The thief unsheaths the knife and angles the blade under the door to look around. No one so far, which was disappointing, but he couldn't see any traps, either.
"If you want to learn from me, you need to learn how to shut that conscience of yours up sometimes."
shhhh
The mechanic was geared towards more charismatic larceny and if he could get a crowd of fans for Nick, what could he do in the Arena?
"He ain't there, huh?" Probably drinking or going off a groupie.

He puts the knife away and takes out the card. Such a small, simple little thing. It almost made his lock picks look advanced, really. Well, there was only one way to find out if it would work. He subconsciously holds his breath as he inserts the card and waits to see if the door would open.

He kept an eye out for any Peacekeepers, Nick, or worse, the infamous Jason Compson the IV. The mechanic had heard the man had an entitlement complex as big as Panem itself and a temper to match it. If the two were to run into him, they'd have to be on good terms.
"Make it quick, I hear the Escort here's prone to arrestin' people on th' spot. Just mess things up a bit an' git."

He pushes the door open, quietly, and shuts it once Ellis is inside.
"Always close doors behind you. It makes it look like nothing's wrong."
Since actual theft isn't the goal here, Garrett assesses the room differently than he normally would. Rather than looking for valuables, he scans instead for small, but essential, everyday items. Little things that would raise hell if they were misplaced or lost.
He spots what seems to be a small bag of what he'd heard called "toiletries." Opening it up revealed a toothbrush, toothpaste, a razor...perfect. Garrett tucks it under a pillow on the bed and, after a moment's thought, takes the razor out and puts that in a dresser drawer.
"That should give the neighbours some entertainment when he gets home. Think you're up for a drink?"
no subject
"I'm up for it...sorry for chickenin' out earlier."
no subject
"Just try to trust me. Unless you see me running, everything's fine."
no subject
"If I see you runnin', I'm gonna assume it's another landslide," El shot with a shit-eating grin. He was damn sure he was going to burn in hell for that one but he couldn't find a fuck to give in that moment.
