Staffer's Retreat. Mandatory. The teams for each District are given a handful of days to prepare for the weekend, which, they're told, is going to be scheduled for a weekend with no big shake-ups in the Arena and perfect weather for outdoor activities. On Friday morning, they're taken by train to a small chalet tucked into a mountainside. A few inches of snow covers the ground but the sky is clear, reflected in the beautiful lake at the base of the mountain.

Until Sunday evening, their days will be packed with "professional development". The schedule looks something like this:

At least Torin knows someone will be along shortly to clean that up. He'd do it himself, but here and now with all these Capitolite staffers isn't the place. He takes Linden's arm and moves to lead him away. "I think you're done for tonight," he says gently. "That's as good a sign as any."

"I suppose you're correct..."

He turns, wavering as he does so; it's fortunate that Torin has his arm supported, because otherwise he might have fallen.

"I can probably get back to my room, don't worry about me..." he slurs, turning in the exact wrong direction and pulling that way.

Torin makes no move to release Linden, though he does try to guide the man in the proper direction. "The Mentors' rooms are this way. I think it's some kind of employee area over there..."

Linden's easy to guide; fortunately (for this situation, at least), he is a compliant enough drunk and recognizes that others are probably better equipped to look out for him than he is himself.

"Right... thanks for that," he murmurs. "By the time I actually get used to this place's layout, the retreat will be over..."

Torin continues guiding Linden towards the proper rooms. "At least it will be easier on you back at the Capitol. Routine can be helpful at times, and it's simpler to set one there."

Linden snorts loudly at that. "As if it's ever easy on Victors in the Capitol," he says derisively, but his anger is aimed a vague direction other than the District 2 Mentor. "But you're right... it's easier to set routines there, and I do so love routines..."

He tips and leans against the wall in the hallway. "I really do think I can make it the rest of the way," he insists softly. "Honestly I'm probably going to be sick soon and it's better if a colleague isn't there for it. It's unpleasant and more than a little humiliating."

Torin agrees with that sentiment, and so he's more than willing to let it slide. "Sometimes, simple things can make it a little easier..."

He gives Linden a nod. He's pointed the other man in the right direction, and he can understand not wanting anyone around in a moment of weakness like that. "Try to get some sleep after, if you can. It'll help you feel better."

Linden turns dizzily and drowsily, pliable and trusting in Torin's hands. He's close enough now that he won't be intercepted by anyone with unscrupulous aims, and he nods as he half-shuffles and half-stumbles toward his room, which is visible from here.

Torin watches Linden go. Satisfied that nothing else will happen, he moves to rejoin the group...or at least to peacefully linger around the edges while nursing a nonalcoholic drink.
