Who| Dave and Hiro
What| Dave decides to teach Hiro the way of the Strider, aka self-defense and sword fighting.
Where| Training Center
When| A little after Hiro arrives, most likely.
Warnings/Notes| Kids fighting, fun fun.
After a series of unfortunate events, Dave has been holed up a lot lately. Part of him could stay like that forever and avoid all the tiring bullshit about being here, but he's pretty awful at not bothering people. As such, he wound up hitting up some of the new people, chatting and.. Signing himself up as someone's trainer. He's not sure how helpful he'll even be, but he figures it's better than sending the kid in blind. Hopefully, anyway.
He sends him a few vague, annoying communicator voice messages before he finally gives him a time and a place. After that, he makes sure to get there a little early, just so he can limber up by practicing with some of the training modules. By the time Hiro is meant to arrive, he's sitting on a bench sprawled out with his communicator looking like he hasn't done much of everything.
When he does arrive, he'll glance up and quirk a brow at him. "Sup? Ready to party?" He'll pull himself up and wiggle a training sword enticingly at Hiro.

He can't let the fear get to him, though, he tells himself over and over. Tadashi would have wanted him to be strong. In order to do that, though, it seems he has to learn how to fight, as much as his brother would have been opposed to that.
So he makes his way to the meeting spot Dave had specified, nervous but also a little intrigued. It's admittedly pretty cool that he's going to be learning how to swordfight, though it's best not to dwell on why.
"Hey," he replied, playing it cool. "Sure, yeah. Let's party." With the sharp and deadly objects, no problem.

"Alright, grasshopper. Let me be the first to say that I'm not exactly a professor of swordsology here. Teaching isn't my forte, so this is a mutual learning experience." He gives his shoulders a shrug as he pushes himself up off the bench, taking a long step towards the weapons table so he can pull two swords from their holding places and offer one to Hiro. He'll gesture for him to follow as he walks backward into a more spacious area, talking as he does.
"So just copy me, I guess." He repositions himself, narrating as he does. "Feet apart, right foot forward, spread your legs a little. Not too much, if you can't balance you're missing the point." He shifts his weight from one leg to the other lazily before he straightens his back and grasps the hilt of his sword with both hands. "Go ahead, mirror man."

"This is probably going to be way different when I'm actually fighting," he points out.

He's a good teacher.

"Wasabi made this look easy," he mumbles.

"He probably stands right, just saying." He nods quickly, tapping his foot when he does. "Try again, legs apart, right foot forward. Space your hands on the hilt like so." He twists his arms so he can demonstrate his grip to Hiro, watching expectantly.

He obeys, and finds that it's much easier to use the sword when he balances his weight evenly. He starts to think he can actually do this.
