Party girls don't get hurt

Who| Felicity & Eponine
What| After the wedding, the girls spend the night together.
Where| District 3 suite
When| Backdated to Saturday night, after the wedding.
Warnings/Notes| ???

She'd looked for Eponine at the wedding, certain that her friend would at least have made an appearance at the event. After all, Eponine and Albert were in the same district. Fee had just assumed that those two would be close, the way she and Jet were. But clearly she was wrong, because Eponine hadn't shown her face at all.

After giving the customary "best man" speech, Felicity excused herself from the festivities and made the trek back to the Tribute Center. She wasn't certain Eponine was in the District Three suites, but she felt compelled to look there and give the girl a piece of her mind. She didn't even bother waiting to be let in by the Avoxes, she breezed into the common area on her own and announced herself loudly.

"Eponine Thenardier. Where are you? Show yourself, little girl." Felicity's voice boomed in the silence of the suite.

"Felicity?" Eponine poked her head out of her bedroom, a surprised look on her face. "I should have thought you would be at the wedding?"

Truth be told, Eponine was glad that Felicity was not there, that she had come to see Eponine... even if she did sound cross.

"Are you angry with me?"

She emerged fully from her room to face her friend.

Eponine flinched at the look. She had no idea how Felucity managed to make her feel so ashamed of herself so quickly. She shifted unvomfortably, until she realised that Felicity was joking, nodding uncertainly as she imagined Felicity's expression.

"I should say you make the most handsome man. But trousers to a wedding?" Said the girl who wore a hoodie to her mother's funeral.
"That is not a donw thing. You should have had a dress, Felicity."

"That is a strange wedding indeed." Eponine imagined the scene. In her view, the genders were really in the wrong places. But she realised that she was glad it wasn't Felicity getting married. "But a nice one, I am sure. I am pleased for Mr. Albert."

She beckoned Felicity closer, going back into her room.

"I was afraid Eva's house would be looted." She gestured to the boxes and sitcases and binbags piled up all over the place. "But it's empty now. Just the furniture, but I can 't move it. I just had to use this time. The Peacekeepers put a needle in to make me sleep too often. But I had to do it."

She turned back to Felicity, with an almost pleading expression on her face. "I should have gone. D'you think they'll be cross? Nobody, besides you, p'raps, would want me there anyway."

"They shall just say I am in an alley with some man, or asleep under a bin or something." Eponine waved her hand dismissively . "And I don't care." Let them say what they wanted. It was best not to worry and face it later. "We know I were doing nothing of the sort. Felicity, you must stop worrying. I am sorry only for Mr. Albert . He is a nice old man."

She looked proudly at the boxes piled up. "I cannot loot from myself, can I? Eva gave me her house and her name. Eponine Salazar now. I told you she loved me."

"Proud? No." Yes. Maybe. "She is a traitor. But she loved me - the only person to ever tell me she loves me and holds me and saves my life again and again. She loved me. And it makes me so happy that she did. It is such a nice thing to have a person who always wants you, no matter what."

"Are you making fun of me?" Eponine dropped her gaze again. She hated it when Felicity did this, put on that awful, lording tone and made fun of her. She hated it, because it made her remember how small and mean and how much of a beggar she actually is.

"There's no need for that. Shouldn't you be happy? I should love you to have it."

"Oh, come." Eponine looked ruefully at Felicity. "Don't be like that. It is done now." Eponine didn't understand Felicity, not always, and she wishes she could. Eponine is open, chattering constantly about her life and her feelings and just about anything that pops into her head. But Felicity? She says nothing.

Eponine sidled back to her friend, deliberately turning her back on Eva's things. She reached for Felicity's hand. "Did I miss the dance? We can dance now, if you like? We can pretend the wedding is here, can't we?"

Sometimes Eponine thought Felicity was still doing it deliberately, that she was still lording it over Eponine and purposely belittling her. And that annoyed Eponine, though she didn't know what to do about it. Was it Eponine's fault that for once in her life, something had gone well? Was it her fault that Felicity didn't have that? Eponine didn't even KNOW that Fee had been neglected so - any of it. How could she know?

"What? You wish me to sing as well?" Eponine snapped, getting fed up of Felicity. She was negative about Eva, negative about the wedding, and now re-buffing Eponine's attempts to fix it. "I am sure I should only give you ear ache. My Pa said I sound like a cat being strangled."

"He were." Eponine said thoughtfully. "Horrid, he were. But I think that that might be true . 'Parnasse said it also. He had me sing just so he could laugh and tell me how unlady-like I am. Would you really want me to sing. I only know the music hall ones, and from here."

She had no idea why she was still so eager to please Fee, even when Fee was at her most contrary.

Because I am original in song choice

[personal profile] gardienne 2014-11-07 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Well... If you so like it." She thought for a minute. She wanted a pretty song, not a rude one. Eventually, she plumped for that old one that she used to sing to herself in Paris. Funnily enough, Eva was about the only person to ever have heard it.

She turned away from Felicity, so she couldn 't see the nerves in Eponine's eyes and began to sing.

"On my own, pretending he's beside me..."

Her voice was sweet at times; melody breaking through the grating, rough tone. But she cracked on the higher notes. By the time she was done , her face was beet.
"La! You are happy, Miss?" She turned back to Fee, feigning indifference, standing awkwardly.

"Yeah? It is one I sang myself in Paris, you know? Sometimes when I had nowhere to go and my feet were burning from the cold and I knew I would spend the night soaked by rain, then I would sing it and pretend to have a man who loved me. I used to sing of Marius, but he would never have me." She wrapped her hands about her as she spoke, smiling a queer smile. "I can see it now. Even from the start, he thought me disgusting and peculiar, but he were kind. But of course, there is the beautiful Cosette and a street rat like me cannot compete with his angel. That is my song."

She smiled sadly again. "Now, Miss, I am sad thanks to you. I am not a person to be loved but I don't like to think on it. How shall you fix that one ?"

Worst rp'r ever!!!

"I know." Well, she sort of did. Here, yes, equals. But she still believed that when they went home, Felicity in her fine carriage and her expensive dress, would even remember Eponine, let alone give her a coin. She didn't vocalise those thoughts.

"Here, yes , we are equals. But in Paris, everyone is sir or miss, even the men with the gang, except French words. It is a bad habit now, to slip when I am thinking of Paris, Felicity. But la! If I were in Paris, you shouldn't even see me or know my name. I am just a cretin to you. In Paris. It is hard to think, isn't it? Here, the equal to ladies, and ladies equal to men, and at home, you must bow to the gentlemen and I am equal to the scum in the gutter again. That will be hard."
