1 ; Training Center

If this place was for real (and it was looking increasingly like it was), Megan was going to need to put in some practice when it came to self-defense. X-Men didn't kill (except for demons, and the proper term in that case was vanquish) but she wanted to be ready to defend herself, just in case. Years of combat training would aid her, of course, but without her powers as a back up, she was worried she wouldn't be able to handle herself in a pinch. After all, everything she relied on fell back on her mutant abilities. Without those, she felt like she would be an easy target.

So she arrived at the training center ready to work on all that. Her first order of business was to get the lay of the land. From there she would decide what to do.

2 ; The Roof

The sunset over the mountains was brilliantly beautiful, but Megan wasn't paying it any mind. Instead she sat brooding on the roof. Or rather, she sat pouting. Bright pink fairies aren't exactly the brooding types. Regardless, she sat on the rooftop overlooking the busy Capitol down below, a pensive look on her face. She wondered, vaguely, what would happen if she jumped off the ledge. What good were those wings of hers if she wasn't able to fly?

"Hate to break it to you, but they can and would do anything to us." The levity in Venus' voice is gone. She can still remember the stink of her own sweat, blood and tears inside that jail cell as if she's there right now. She takes a deep breath and reminds herself she's breathing hard because she was just exercising.

"But yeah, that's pretty high on the list of the worst things they generally do."

"But why?" Her voice goes soft, head shaking. "Why are they doing this to us? Why would they do this to anybody?"

Venus opens her mouth and then pauses, realizing the depths they're plumbing, the difficulty in answering such a simple question. No answer can swallow all the hellishness of the truth.

"They say it keeps the peace."

"Violence and peace are kind of opposites, though. There's no reconciling them. Not when it comes to something like this." Her voice is sad, but there's a stark determination in there somewhere. She emphatically believes what she's saying. She has to, if she has any hope left at all.

"Supposedly it's a little violence to keep this place from breaking out into a war. Like letting pus out a wound to give it a chance to heal, or something." Venus sounds as unconvinced in what she's saying as Megan sounds believing. She runs her hands up the back of her neck and links her fingertips into the base of her hair, face scrunched slightly as she considers what she can say-

-remembers the brand coming down on her face, the trash bag, the broken rips, spitting blood-

-and swallows. "A politician here might be able to explain the logic behind it, because I can't find much."

"This place is a nightmare," is all Megan can manage, shoulders slumping slightly. "But every nightmare has an end. We just have to want to wake up, and then actually do it." Because wanting something isn't enough. You have to make strides toward it, otherwise desire is for naught.

"Careful about what you say here," Venus says, gesturing to her brand. "I'm not saying I disagree, just- careful where you say it. And when."

Megan nods, filing that tidbit safely away for later. "I'll keep that in mind. Promise."
