The Crowning Of Clara Murphy

Who| Everyone.
What| The Crowning of Clara Murphy
Where| A refurbished former-medical building within Capitol.
When| Starting from late afternoon, going into the evening and late night.
Warnings/Notes| Don't forget, peacekeepers are on high alert and will notice any rebellious activity or odd behaviour.

The theme of the ceremony is corruption and dystopia, with a distinct nod to futuristic aspects and, of course, robots. The room is stark, clean, and foreboding, all done in metallics, crisp whites, and the occasional bit of robotics set up as art. It speaks as an unholy cross between a medical office, a military base, and an extremely well kept prison.

The ceremony is both a chance for Capitolites to have fun and be grateful for the grand and glorious Panem which in no way exemplifies any attributes of dystopia, while also working as a not so subtle reminder to the troublemakers out there of what can happen when things get out of line. Which they surely won't, with all the peacekeepers around.

Tributes are dressed in all manner of thing incorporating chains, rope, caution tape, muzzles, bars and cages, prison stripes, and uniform orange-- all things reminiscent of imprisonment and restriction. Some tributes may be made to look scuffed up, like cartoon-ish depictions of hardened thugs. There are a few references to robotics, and that of evil and corrupt military men and police officers, but all tributes will be marked by some manner of cuff or chain that clearly denotes them as “criminals”.

They’ll also be given a “prison number” that is actually indicative of their district association and an arbitrary letter next to it, for example, someone from district six will have 06 and the first letter of their name. It will be temporarily tattooed somewhere visible on their skin. It can be washed off but it will take more scrubbing than would be done in a single day, let alone a crowning.

The only exceptions to these rules, are those who have been brought to the winner’s table; all those who can be deemed as cyborgs, scientists, and of course, the victor herself. Her throne sits at the head of the table, a robotic contraption that appears almost as though it might encase her. For a crown, Clara has been given one that seems to bear resemblance to a white picket fence, which, when made into a crown, looks far sharper than the idyllic home setting it’s meant to represent.

Avoxes are all dressed as members of the corrupt Detroit military police. The uniforms are naturally given a more sinister edge. None of them are comfortable. All of them are serving “Detriotto” staple foods.

Around the crowning, flat hologram projections of hockey games can be seen. They show the games of a team called “The Rouge Wings” and alternate that with the less spectacular showings of what appears to be a young boy’s hockey team. Commercials fill the times between promoting the work of Capitol’s peacekeepers, showing appreciation for them on an individual level, encouraging obedience in citizens with pleasant clips of peacekeepers speaking to children, and suggesting recruitment in the truly good and noble of Panem. Capitolites may nod along to these as they giggle at the sight of decorative signs, that are most certainly from Clara’s lesser world, about obeying, consuming, and so on, to a less than favourable government. A few posters feature Clara Murphy’s face in four colour palettes, all humorous jabs at dystopia proclaiming; “MOTHER MURPHY IS WATCHING YOU”.

But hockey games are not the only things that can be seen on the projection screens; if tributes take the time to look, they may see their own face projected above in profile and facing forward views like that of mug shots. Though, how the capitol has managed to get these pictures may be entirely a mystery. Besides these mugshots, criminal records are displayed, listing crimes from “lied to their parents” to petty theft to murder. Whether these records are true or not may be up for much debate.

In the mean time, there are plenty of things for party go-ers to do, such as take part in the David For A Day egg and spoon race, in which tributes will all have a chance to dress up (with wigs and matching clothing of all sizes!) as the mysterious David, compete against others, and should they win, be dubbed David For A Day, winning themselves a banner they can wear and a spot at the victor table.

There is also an obstacle course available dubbed the "Clarence Boddicker Memorial Prison Funhouse" designed to look, you guessed it, like a prison. Fun for all ages and demeanours!

For those looking for retreat, there’s a small section cut away from it all, designed to be a pleasant backyard patio setting opened to a starry night sky and small surrounding garden, in stark contrast to the rest of the place. There’s a small area for dancing in, that can really only accommodate one couple at a time, but is nevertheless perfect for a romantic scene. Only two songs play over speakers here, one perfectly fitting, the other a little more jarring. It’s also here that party go-ers can get their picture taken with a life sized ED-209. Many more much smaller ED-209’s can be seen around and within the crowning party. As well as the occasional roomba, which fans of the last arena will surely get a chuckle out of.

As the crowning nears it’s end, those at the victor’s table will be given paintball guns filled up with red paint. They will be ordered to bring the criminals to justice! The criminals being all the other tributes. Those hit with paint will be made to wait within the Memorial Prison Funhouse until all the criminals are apprehended and forced to do their time! No one will be allowed to go back to the tribute tower until all the criminals are caught.

"It's how we keep track of everything. We just hate it because it's boring and tedious."

Tony shrugs, he's been doing paperwork for various reasons for a lot of his life, and while he does honestly find it boring and tries to push it off on Pepper when he can, however it never really bothered him that much if he couldn't escape it.
justoutrunyou: (you think I'm cute?)

Sandy nodded in understanding. Life seemed too short for boring and tedious things.

"Glad we don't have to do it for all of this mess." She gestured around them.

"Imagine if you had to do paperwork for every time you died in the arena." She added with a cheeky smile.

Tony does think about it for a second and then for a small moment he thinks about Coulson and all the paperwork he had to do because of Tony and any of the other Avengers he had been in contact with before he...

"We might not have to, but I'm pretty sure the GameMakers would. So at least there's some silver lining to all this."
justoutrunyou: (Stone faced smile)

"Serves them right then." Sandy smirked sardonically. "I'd be happier knowing that my dying just means more boring work for them then I am thinking about how much fun people have watching me trip over myself for weeks."

A bit spiteful, but she feels entitled to it. Especially the way they kept showing her mugshot and re-running a list of supposed crimes she had committed including "Being unlovable"

He raises an eyebrow at her.

"Don't let them see you get bitter, that way they know they're winning."

Is all he says before putting some more food into his mouth and eats it, he knows from experience that when someone knows you're bitter or smug about their misfortune that they can come at you with a hell of a lot of force and damage in an attempt to ruin you more than you could them, something he's had to learn the hard way himself a few times, one of those times very recently, and that was all borne from Tony just talking down to and playing a prank on some awkward nerd with a limp.
justoutrunyou: (We'll use masks)

[personal profile] justoutrunyou 2014-10-23 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Sandy considered his warning and shrugged her shoulders. "It's a bit late for that." She figured tapping her forehead where her mutilated brand was hidden by her wool cap.

"I guess I could just start acting like I don't care but do you think they'd buy it after so long?" Almost two years of crying, screaming and fighting.
arrogantalloy: (A: 021 You for real)

[personal profile] arrogantalloy 2014-10-25 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Tony shrugged back at her.

"Sounds like you're saying that they don't think you're capable or either learning or growing up. So I guess that could be either on them, which considering we're little more than cheap entertainment, possible. Or. It's on you. Are you capable of giving them your best Gaga with everything they keep doing?"

He contemplates having more food, but has another drink instead.

As far as he was seeing things right now with cuffs and brands the capitol were really upping their game with trying to keep 'trouble makers' in line he's hardly going to let any of the younger kids do anything that could get them any more deliberately targeted than they naturally are as tributes.

But at the same time, he wasn't going to force it on them. If they didn't want to listen to his advice they didn't have to.
justoutrunyou: (WTF?)

[personal profile] justoutrunyou 2014-10-25 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Sandy blinked at him slowly drinking in the words and held up two fingers.

"One: I've been here almost two years and I've never gotten more then a couple months older before I die." she pointed out.

"And two: Gaga like the noise babies make?"

Clearly she had missed the point entirely. Try again Tony.
arrogantalloy: (A: 013 no)

[personal profile] arrogantalloy 2014-10-28 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
The look he gives her is a mix of put upon and boredly surprised.

"That. Barbados is closer to the point than you are, kid. As a refresher; there is no Barbados here."

He shakes his head.

"How about the phrase 'fake it till you make it', does that ring a bell?"
justoutrunyou: (you people are morons)

[personal profile] justoutrunyou 2014-11-01 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah! Recognition dawning on her face at a phrase she was much more familiar with.

"Yeah, Effie used to say that sometimes."

Just thinking about Effie was like a punch in the chest, but she'd gotten used to it so she rolled along.

"I thought that's what I've been doing up till now. Now that I've got training all I can blame it on is being too small or not good enough. But I guess I can play pretend if it means keeping them from being happy."

It would be hard, but she was surrounded by people who were better at hiding their real emotions.
arrogantalloy: (A: 010 Really)

[personal profile] arrogantalloy 2014-11-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Tony barely knew Effie, so her loss was hardly something that would affect Tony, but he at least knew the signs from his own inability to reference someone who had most recently died that he did care about, and just let her roll on without reacting.

"Believe me kid. You're pretty easy to read. Also being small or not good enough aren't things to be held back on. You either put all the effort in or not enough."

He looks around the room contemplatively for a moment.

"If you're not using all your effort, then failure is always the more obvious option."

The words are something Tony very much believes in, because when he was her age he had always thought if he puts more effort into what he does then his dad will notice him. At the time all he knew it is that it didn't work which either made him try harder or act out.
justoutrunyou: (reading peculiar paperwork)

[personal profile] justoutrunyou 2014-11-03 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
She considers his words carefully mulling them over and comparing them to the countless stacks of other advice and bits of wisdom that had been passed to her in the last two years.

"So if I can't work at it any harder, is it OK if I just keep working at it so long as I don't give up? Or do I have to find a way to work harder?" Because she wasn't sure her tiny body could dish out more force so all that left was to force her mind to absorb more.
arrogantalloy: (A: 015 Oh yeah okay)

[personal profile] arrogantalloy 2014-11-13 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. Something like that. Just do what ever you can to not give them a story."

So really do everything Tony doesn't normally do, Sandy. And you'll have those capitolites thinking you're never bothered.
justoutrunyou: (I've telling that joke for years)

[personal profile] justoutrunyou 2014-11-13 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Even Sandy knew that would be harder then it sounded, but arguing with someone she knew to be smart seemed pointless. He knew what he was talking about she just had to make it work.

"Thanks. I'll try to manage that. At least there's plenty of other people to distract them from me."

The trick of course was to not become so boring that they would simply let her stay dead.
