who are we to be emotional
WHO| Steph and YOU!
WHAT| Arrival Shenanigans
WHEN| Today after she gets dropped in Panem
WHERE| Training Center, District 8 Suites, Rooftop
WARNINGS| None at the moment!
Training Center
This isn't the first time Stephanie has woken up in a strange place, but it was certainly the first time for a mob of armed guards informing her that she was now apart of a battle royal to the death. She'd insisted that they must be joking, but when they got nasty and threatened violence, she backed off. Contrary to popular belief, she didn't actually enjoy getting beat up. There was also the nagging feeling that something was very wrong with her, she just couldn't place what, which is why she's here in the training center.
It doesn't take long for her to discover that they're somehow blocking the serum in her body. Her punches don't move the sandbags like they used to, and she gets winded so easily that it's alarming. Steph stops the bag from swinging, breathing hard and fast. None of this boded well.
District 8 Suites
The district suites where they dropped her off are ridiculous to say the least. They're huge and gaudy and she can't quite decide if she likes them or not; It's so much space for so few people. She might be biased in that respect, but there's no denying the scale and luxury of it all.
Steph is poking around the common areas and the kitchen, investigating all the bells and whistles. It's not like she has much else to do.
Rooftop
After everything that's happened so far, Steph has wandered to the rooftop for some fresh air. She has to admit that the view of the city is is impressive. It's still a whole different world, hostile and controlling, apparently feeding on death and pain like it's going out of style. It's frustrating to be so powerless in the face of such gross injustices. But none of that means she's about to give up. No, she's just got to come up with a plan of attack. And there's no use rushing headlong into trouble.

"I know this is the part where they all say this, but I swear I'm not usually the kind of guy who forgets people's names." He gives her an apologetic smile. "But time's... kind of wonky here, we might not have met yet."
He hasn't learned about other realities yet, but he's learned that. "How did we meet?"

"I met you jogging, out by the reflecting pool in D.C., and then you helped me take down an evil organization trying to kill millions of people." Just another day on team Cap. "You saved my ass a couple of times."

And then he looks closely at her again, with that it mind, and starts to maybe see why she looks a little familiar.
But no. No way, it can't be. ...right?
"...Cap?"

She'd introduced herself as Stephanie, and she'd expected him to recognize her. She knows him - somehow - so they can't have just erased Steve's memory and made him think he was a woman or something. And Steve already knows he's here, wouldn't be asking when it'd happened.
"Few days," he replies, answering the easier question while he tries to figure out what the hell and kind of wishes he was close enough to one of the benches to sit down.
"You, uh. Don't exactly look like Cap. I mean, you kind of do, guess that's where I was getting the familiarity from, but-" There's a pause, and he just goes for it, because the rambling's going no where. "The Captain America I know is Steve Rogers."

Their names are ridiculously similar though, and while it could be coincidence, it doesn't explain much of anything else. Because she's still herself and where she comes from--
Oh hell, that was it wasn't it. This was turning into some crazy scifi adventure where they're all coming from different worlds and so he was not her Sam. A different Sam. But pretty much the same as far as she could tell?
All of this is giving her a headache.
"Your Captain America," She starts. "Is someone else instead of me."
That's super bizarre to think about. So in fact she's been bothering a complete stranger this whole time. Whoops.

"I guess so."
Two Captain Americas, one his, and one not. But she knew him, which means - there's two hims, too. Another him out there who's used to Cap being a woman, who...
Well, he doesn't know, what differences there might be. And his first, unwelcome thought is Riley. He almost wants to ask her, if the Sam she knew had managed to save him, had done something different, something impossible.
But he doesn't really want the answer, and anyway, on his good days, he knows there was nothing he could have done.
So instead, he gives her a slightly wry smile. "You still lap me about a hundred times in half an hour, or am I the only one that got that particular meet-cute?"
