Caring for people is stupid
Who| Pruna and Sandy
What| Breakout!
Where| Jail and then around the city as they run
When| During jail breaks
Warnings/Notes| We have tiny child murderer, other tiny child having been tortured, description of branding, and likely frank conversations about death. I will add if anything else happens
She was going to kill them all. Every peacekeeper and every Capitolite in this city. This Pruna vowed as she approached the jail. She had found the darkest, loosest clothes in her wardrobe and her feet were once again bare. She was not going to mess this up because of stupid shoes.
Killing would come later, getting Sandy out of the jail was the mission tonight. It felt strange to be doing a mission of her own violition. No orders, no briefing. Just her own plan. She had to hope it was a good one.
She had thought about getting help, and then decided against it. She didn't want anyone elses stupidity to make her fail. However now she was close she thought someone like Shepard might have been useful, or Initiate.
Still she had made her choice, it was just her and the darkness and all the knives she had managed to steal from the kitchen and training rooms.
The plan was pretty simple, break into the jail, kill anyone in the way as quietly as possible, grab Sandy and get out.
The jail was difficult to navigate, since she had seen no plans, no maps before hand. A guard was pickpocketed and left to his own devices. Pruna scowled at the lack of keys but wrinkled her nose at the cards, but the tribute towers had keys that were cards so she grinned.
Her biggest problem was that she didn't know where Sandy was, Pruna had done jailbreaks before and more often slipping in weapons or poisons to prisoners who her guardians needed not to speak. But this jail was like nothing she had ever seen.
Someone had to know where all the prisoners were, there had to be some organisation. So Pruna kept moving, keeping out of sight, on edge because she was trained to avoid human eyes, not stupid technology.
When she saw the centre and the computer she frowned. She hated not knowing all the facts and computers were hard. She could use her communicator but outside of that...
She sneaked forwards and tried pressing a button, nothing happened. She stared at it in frustration, and looked around for anything to help. No papers, no lists, no floor plans. Not even a locked box or cupboard.
She stared at the computer again and noticed the thin slot. Well she had never heard of a key for a computer but at this point anything was worth a try. She grinned triumphantly. It took longer than she would have liked but she finally had a cell number. She pulled the card out and hurried on her way.
It took her a while to find the cell, once she worked out the pattern of where they were. She put the keycard into the slot and frowned when nothing happened. She took it out and put in another- they looked identical to her but what did she know about stupid technologies.
She saw her, curled up there and her eyes narrowed at the bandages on her face.
"Sandy." She hissed, she could only hope that the other girl could hear her, and was sensible enough to stay quiet.

She had no idea how it would work. "Maybe it do be being a technology thing, maybe we can be changing it."

"We don't even know anything about how they do it. We know they can do it fast if they want, and people can bring disease with them but that's it."
Looking at her hands she slowly gripped them into fists.
If we can't make it work we'll go somewhere else. My world, or Shepard's. Anywhere so long as we stick together."

She finished cleaning and studied Sandy's face, the brand would need covered, mostly to hide it rather than anything else, and the cut. The rest could stay uncovered, they didn't have enough bandages and Sandy looking like a bandage monster would be even more noticeable than bruises.

There was so much pain that had happened since her arrest, even more then most of her arenas. Pit was difficult to compare considering how pain faded with memories and time. Even the excruciating pain of mangling her leg in a bear trap haunted her nightmares but in the waking hours it was just unpleasant memories that made her knee ache.
But worst of all was the guilt. The sickly poisoned feeling that made the sweet soup and bread in her belly feels sour. Pruna had been dead and she had thought it was her fault.
Now Pruna was alive but in serious trouble and that was absolutely her fault.
Even with everything she'd done...she still wasn't strong enough.

"You should be sleeping." She said eventually, "I will be watching and nothing will be getting us."

She found these days it was almost impossible to sleep soundly without the special Tea Effie had taught her about. She could lay still and she could close her eyes but she couldn't shut off her brain and from the sad expression on her lips that much was clear.
Behind her eyelids images of blood and the sounds of screams filled her mind. She groped for a moment reaching for Pruna and gripped at her pant leg for some small comfort that she was still there.
Nothing would get her if Pruna was there.
"Thank you for saving me." She whispered into the darkness.
Though there might still be some doubt as to how much of her there was left to save.

She did wonder at the words, how much of Sandy she had actually saved, had she been too late? How was she supposed to fix this? Anger at what had been done and anger at herself for caring warred with each other and her chest felt all tight again. She sighed.

They had met in the arena and Pruna had hated her. She'd won over the girl simply by having what Pruna needed at the time. Information on how to survive in this new world.
But over time she'd won Pruna's loyalty. And now it was being put to the test.
timeskip to morning?
Still she didn't like it, she didn't like how she didn't know what to do and how no matter what she did Sandy would always be hurt and always be scared and Pruna couldn't help her.
And she hated the fact she wanted to help her. Who was Sandy that Pruna felt like this. She had killed her sister because she had been told to, but here she was barely days after, having broke every rule to bring this girl to safety.
It was stupid and it made no sense and she didn't get how she could be both those people at the same time.
Time ticked on and Pruna was lost in her thoughts though it did not stop her alertness and worrying at every noise.
Soon though the first light of morning began to make it's way through into the basement.
Re: timeskip to morning?
Well...mostly.
Turning her head slowly to look at Pruna she tried to remember if she'd had any dreams, but thankfully nothing stood out.
Her first exhaustion fueled nightmare free sleep in who knows how long.

"We do be needing to be moving on." She told her once she realised that Sandy had woken up. "Do you be knowing anywhere safe we can be going?"
Staying in one place was not a good idea.

"I...yeah I know some blind spots around the city but...we gotta get out somehow. Maybe run to District 13...I don't know where it is though." She mumbled struggling to shake the fog from her mind so fast. She had been running on adrenaline so long her body was protesting being awake.

"We do be needing to be avoiding the technologies." She reached out to pull her friend to her feet. If she were at home she would use the roofs, but the roofs here were so high she didn't think they could climb the buildings.

"What did they do to me." She whined softly trying to focus and finding the fog on her brain wasn't lifting. Was it fatigue or something more sinister?

At least she hoped it was that, she could steal some food and deal with that. If they had done something to her brain...
She held out a hand, "Be coming on, we will be getting out of here."
no subject
"Before we go out there...I don't think I thanked you. You're the best friend I've ever had." Her grip was tight as she let Pruna lead her to the exit.
"I'm really glad we met." she added shyly, cheeks burning as she rubbed her head with the other hand avoiding her burn.

She thought about the Initiate's words, about balance and how even though other people could drag you down they could also make you stronger.
She stared at her and squeezed her hand back. "I do be being glad as well."
With that she pulled her outwards, into the wide world, though her eyes darted around seeking shadows to hide in.
