There's a humming in the restless summer air (open)
Who| MCU!Bucky Barnes and OTA
What| Bucky's having issues, he deals with them by punching things
Where| The training level
When| Couple days prior to the jailbreak
Warnings/Notes| Violence, trauma stuff
Bucky is here under two objectives.
Practically, he needs to practice his familiarity with his body's limitations in this place, he must keep himself sharp and ready because there is a mission soon that will require him to be in top form. However there is a personal need beneath it, something new for a man like him. He needs distraction and rather than allow it to be given to him by others he has made another of his growing list of choices and come here of his volition.
They made him act to stop him thinking, then put him away into storage when those actions were done after a fresh wipe to ensure he remained in pristine condition, like a child's toy lovingly sealed into its wrapping. Though Bucky is done with wipes and cryo tanks he holds that first part to heart; if he acts he will have no time to think and there is a lot he would rather not think about. The things that are disturbing his sleep at night.
So Bucky takes to the training level of the Tribute Centre, making use of the many and varied options it offers. The training dummy's are mercilessly pummelled; various weaponry is put through its paces in expert hands; the holographic targeting practice is something he warms to quickly, throwing knives with deadly precision at multiple light-constructed opponents. If someone asks him, maybe he'll even agree to spar.

It's why he fought before, though in truth then he had not known the Capitol resurrected people. He had fought out of desire for survival -- and compulsion to obey. The next arena he would be going in with a different objective, one that would still lead him to fight.

And of course she will fight to stay alive should it come to that, but she will not force it, and she will not seek out other tributes merely to kill them. They are prisoners just like she, and have done nothing to bring her wrath upon them. What reason has she to take their lives unless they make an attempt to end hers?

Because they are not human beings to these people, they are puppets, toys. Just like in his own past he is made to dance at the whim of others, to accept that his life is not his own and does not belong to him. Even death is taken away from them, enforcing their lives as the Capitol's playthings.
"Winning is the only way out."

She wants to say that such a thing is not possible, but with all that she has seen she is no longer a certain as she might once have been about what is possible and what is not.
"And is there only one winner?"
Because then whoever won would have to kill a lot of people before getting out.

He still thinks about it sometimes, an unrest in his mind to add to all the others. The crack of the crowbar against his skull, the barely felt sensation in his daze of a blade through his heart. It seems strangely dull and sharp all at once in his memory.
"Only one." he confirms.

"Then I will not win."
Thor will, if she has anything to say about it, though if that cannot be accomplished in a way her friend could live with then let them perish together at least.
She has seen Thor die once before and it shattered her heart, she would rather die a thousand deaths than see it happen again. Yet as long as he still draws breath she will cling to life with teeth and claws and fight for every beat of his heart until it is cold and still in his chest.

He's intrigued by that response, wondering if it will agree with so many of the tributes stance on the arena. The one's who won't fight, who don't want to play the Capitol's game but still try to survive as long as they can until they inevitably fall, if you don't fight, he wonders, why not just seek your death early?
Bucky himself doesn't intend to win for an entirely different reason, he plans for someone else to. There is a better man than he who deserves to escape this cycle of death.

And this would put her and Bucky at cross purposes, since it is not the same men that they intend to see safely through the arena if they can.
no subject
It would be a good idea to know the identity of her chosen winner. That way if he were to cross paths with them and possibly take them down he would know whether or not he would risk the ire of this woman with her formidable combat skills.

And her tone makes it very clear indeed that if he harms Thor in any way he will make an enemy of her. Things tend to not end very pleasantly for enemies of Lady Sif.

He says in response. It lowers the chances of violence between them, then. Thor is someone he would not attack without due cause.
"He is the ally of the man I protect."
no subject
If the man is an ally of Thor, he is her ally as well, at least until he does something to change that.
no subject
If this means there will be another on Steve's side, at least to an extent then Bucky would be glad of it. The more people to fight with Captain America the better chance Bucky has of seeing him through alive, knowing that Steve himself would not fight unless in defence or to protect others. Anything that helps keep Steve alive while Bucky clears his way for him to win is welcomed.
"We have similar missions."

She has never met him, but she knows that he was one of the people who aided Thor in returning Loki to Asgard and foiling his plans to rule Midgard.
"It would indeed seem as if our purposes resemble each other closely."
And it is a purpose that she can respect.
no subject
"Thor Odinson is Steve's ally, so I will not harm him."
He hopes she will do the same in return.
no subject
"And I will not harm Steve."
Unless it for some reason or other cannot be avoided, but she has a feeling that that goes without saying with this man.
no subject
It seems a good part to return to his own activities and leave this woman to hers. He half turns, pauses. "What is your name?"
no subject
"Sif. And yours?"
