[Closed] We were made for killing
Who| MCU!Bucky and Natasha Romanova, later 616!Bucky
What| Steve's in the arena, MCU's not. Natasha decides this calls for a distraction in the form of haircuts and sparring, 616 joins in later.
Where| Various, starting with the common area and ending in the training room
When| Day of the ship mini-arena
Warnings/Notes| Natasha's prejudice against hobo hair
[It's the extent of his reaction that takes Bucky off guard, the anger that boiled up alongside the distinct tang of fear, though not fear for himself. Steve is gone, put on board a sinking ship while the Soldier remains uselessly behind in the Capitol, unable to fulfil his mission. He'd known something was wrong from the moment he woke up alone in the room and gone looking for Steve throughout the training centre, unable to locate him.
He doesn't understand how it happened, when they took Steve, but they did. The television screen in front of him doesn't lie about that, nor the desperation of the situation befalling the tributes chosen. Yes chosen, he remembers now, the Capitol citizens had voted who they wanted to see thrown into this arena and of course they picked that idiot.
That idiot... he's never thought of Steve like that before and a wave of deja vu washes over him, he's felt something like this before but he can't remember where.
Danger is in every line of the Soldier's body right now as he stares at the screen, fingers curling into fists, an explosive waiting to be set off if someone isn't careful.]

shows up eight days late with starbucks
That and their last conversation left her wanting more than anything else. Not entirely sure what she'll say when she does catch up to him (a mere apology is beneath the two of them), she's not given opportunity to think on it for long: he's right there in the middle of her path.
Straightening her posture in a manner that's more defensive than anything, the Widow stares him down in anticipation. The look doesn't last for long as it fades into a bemused smirk with wit at the tip of her tongue. ]
You really need a haircut.
/drinks all the Starbucks
At first it's just a careful look from the corner of his eye to see who was coming before he identifies the Black Widow and turns to face her approach fully.
The pent up
anxietyaggression in his body is seeking an outlet and given how their first encounter went down he's immediately wary of something similar happening again with Steve removed from the picture. Despite his reassurances and gained from promises for the Soldier not to attack her again he can't be certain it is true for her regarding him.So he watches her warily only to be wrongfooted the moment she speaks.
Did he hear that correctly? Confused Bucky tilts his head, his hair almost pointedly falling across his face as he questions what Natasha just said.]
... what?
/keeps you up all night long now
Let's change that before your Stylist decides to put rainbow colored highlights through it.
[ The look in her eyes that follows when she meets his gaze gives away more, that there are other things to discuss. Answers, if he's willing to cooperate, with a hint of earnest concern for someone. Whether it's him or their missing comrade remains unspoken. ]
/up all night to get Bucky
The Soldier didn't give much thought to his appearance because in all of his life as Hydra's asset it was not something he had been allowed to control. It was not up to him to make a decision over any aspect of his existence -- even to point out that the length of his hair was inconvenient, that sometimes it got in the way or blocked his vision. His masters had never seen a need to cut it and he would never have questioned it.
Except... now he does that she's brought his attention to it. It almost cost him his life before because he had no consideration to cut it himself. It is inconvenient and irritating how it gets in the way and cutting it would be easier.
He doesn't miss what's beneath the words that the Widow is saying either and he's torn for a moment between acceptance and refusal for that. But he needs to do something, he needs structure or he will do what he is not supposed to and fall back on the violence he knows best in the wake of Steve's absence. That would contradict the orders he had.
He doesn't want it to be rainbow coloured.]
Why would they do that?
no subject
[ Knowing that that alone won't explain it, she taps her arm thoughtfully as if she's trying to find the words, to locate something he'd be able to understand. In actuality, she's already beyond that point and knows which references to make; the wait is just to see how he reacts. ]
We're celebrities in this world--foreigners who have been brought here for the sole purpose of sport. Our districts will dress us accordingly only to have us parade around for sponsors. Rainbow colored hair might just be how they want to present you.
[ Or maybe they'll give him a ton of eye make-up to keep with the vermin image. ]
no subject
Sponsors are important, he's already been made to understand this, he has limits though.
These are the sort of problems he was never trained for.]
No.
[He says flatly, eyeing her now.]
What will you do to it?
no subject
[ Though she'll add with a heavy sigh: ] It isn't as if I'm going to kill you with a pair of scissors now that Steve's got himself thrown into another arena.
It'd be counterproductive to come here to keep you from getting into trouble by throwing it right at your feet, now wouldn't it?
no subject
She has a point, not that he'd concede it. Instead he simply gives her a nod of agreement.]
Fine.
