Kevin's Crowning

Who | Everyone.
What | Kevin's Crowning
Where | An outdoor plaza, sectioned off and well guarded.
When | Starting at noon and continuing on until sunset.
Warnings/Notes | This event is mandatory for all Tributes and Victors to attend. Even if you do not tag in, your character will attend this party.

Playful signs began to pop-up all over the Tribute center in the days leading up to the crowning, advertising the mandatory nature of the event itself while also promising an afternoon of delightful festivities. All attendees were loaded onto buses and driven to the location of the picnic, with colorful t-shirts distributed upon their arrival (D1- Navy, D2- Red, D3- Grey, D4- Light blue, D5- Orange, D6- Yellow, D7- Forest green, D8- Royal blue, D9- Purple, D10- Black, D11- Lime green, D12- Hot pink, and White for any Capitol officials in attendance.) Likewise, all the attendees were given name tag stickers and then dispersed out into the plaza. All except guest of honor, Kevin, who was escorted onto the grounds dressed entirely in white and was given a large and ornate golden crown to wear.

Balloons of every color decorated the entire area . Along with picnic tables and benches, a large main stage was erected in the middle of the plaza with a microphone and a DJ, who played the same six songs on repeat. At it's center, Kevin was given a throne to sit on, so that he could preside over the picnic and enjoy his freshly prepared hamburger and french fries.

There were several small tents that ringed the edge of the stage area. Inside a few of them, you might face painters available, but the only design they would do was paint your face to look like Kevin. Anyone who had their face painted was also given an adorable construction paper crown to wear.

In other tents, a few carnival games had been set up for entertainment. There was a shooting range game where the faces of the targets changed to look like you whenever you stepped up to play, as well as skeeball and a rope ladder climb game. All the prizes were stuffed plush dolls reminiscent of famed former victors. All with Kevin's smile.

A bouncy castle that looked a shocking bit like the city hall building found in the last arena was free for anyone to play on. (Complete with fog machine!) And almost directly across the way from the castle, a caged-in area set up to be a ball-pit was also open for all to enjoy. Upon further inspection of the pit filled with thousands of plastic balls, one could clearly see how they had each been painted to look like giant, vacant black eyes.

The only two food options available to attendees were cupcakes and hotdogs. The cupcakes came with sprinkles. The hotdogs also came with sprinkles. The only beverage option was orange juice. And everyone must have a glass of orange juice, otherwise no one can ever leave.

At 2pm, Peacekeepers erected a volleyball net and the Tributes were instructed to play. Anyone who touched the net would get a slight electrical shock. Clearly it was a best to avoid the net.

As the volleyball game came to a close, several officials took the stage with a special announcement. Public polls would be open to all Capitol citizens the following morning to begin casting their votes. Who will be the next tributes to go into the next arena?! Over the next few days, the public will pick their favorites to enter a special bonus arena! Stay tuned for details!

Once the festivities were over and the Tributes were loaded back onto the buses, they would come to notice something new in the lobby of the Tribute Center. On the ceiling above them was a massive crystal chandelier, seven feet across. And it was no ordinary chandelier. It was customized beautifully, in the shape of Kevin's jagged and ever-present smile.

Beneath it, a spread of fine wine and cheeses. A man in a cream yellow suit with cream yellow hair sat at a grand piano in the corner, playing calm and pleasant melodies that might seem almost familiar to some and yet unrecognizable to anyone. Escorts seem to be in no hurry to get tributes back to their towers, and the wine continues to flow late into the night for anyone who lingers around to drink it.

Until next time, tributes. Until next time.

Interesting indeed, but he'll take it over the new expression. It's preferable to the aura of sadness that's been clinging to her since the news of 3. Even if it fills him with a sense of foreboding. "You look as if you have a plan already."

"I've been doing this awhile, you know." Indeed, her entire demeanor seemed to change and she was suddenly part of this plan in its entirety. "The first thing you have to do is make a spectacle of the engagement. The more drama the better. Maybe have some rumors swirling about trouble in paradise, followed up by someone getting a big rock of jewels to show off and stir up interest."
silberfuchs: (incredulous)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-08-08 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Jet's not a woman," he starts, then realizes who he's talking to. "I mean, we don't generally go in for diamonds and jewelry like that."

Says the man wearing an (admittedly plain) engagement ring and the little silver airplane necklace that had been in Jet's gift basket after their first arena. It stands out against his grey shirt, shining with hypocrisy.

"And I'm not good with this sort of public... thing."

She waved her hand dismissively, clearly not one to be defeated just yet. "It doesn't matter. Panem is all about appearances. The Capitol will want a big production, so you have to give it to them. You have to get their interest, and more than that you have to keep it! Something flashy will definitely do the trick."
silberfuchs: (surprised)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-08-14 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Flashy how?" He really is at a loss. Albert doesn't do flashy. Maybe Jet would have a better idea but he can't imagine what it would be on his own so he just sits there looking ill at ease instead.
confidentially: (if you find a man that's worth a damn)

[personal profile] confidentially 2014-08-14 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, you know. Glitz, jewels, a fancy party with extravagant food. That kinda thing." She was imaging a wedding for her self, to be honest. Or at least a swanky engagement party. "Maybe at the next crowning you arrange to pop the question in front of everyone. That way the press will get to see it and everything."
silberfuchs: (embarrassed concentration)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-08-19 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"The next crowning is later than I'd hoped. I'd wanted to try and drum up so much interest we'd be exempt from this mini arena they've just announced." He glances at the stage darkly, but it's difficult for him to look menacing for once considering the blush that had crept up his neck is finally making a bid for his cheeks at the very idea of proposing to Jet in front of everyone.

Be gentle with him, Jessica. He's an old fashioned guy at heart.

[personal profile] confidentially 2014-08-20 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Jessica's brows furrowed a bit. "That might work. Or it could backfire hideously and they'd decide to send you both in with some jacked up stipulation that you have to murder each other."

It made her queasy just thinking about it and she wasn't sure quite if it was purely out of sympathy or because she was suddenly imagining that she and Barbie were in the same arena, forced to face down each other. She shut her eyes, not wanting to imagine anymore.

"So how about you give me your tentative timeline and we'll work from there."
silberfuchs: (blushing)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-08-21 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"They'd be disappointed." It's not posturing at all, just said in such a matter of fact way that it's clear there's nothing that could force him to kill Jet, not outright for the entertainment of a bored and vapid Capitol at any rate.

"Frankly, if it wasn't to try and avoid this new dog and pony show, we would likely find someone to perform the ceremony quietly tonight while the cameras are all still focused on Kevin." He says the name like a disease, hateful and ugly.

"We've waited a very long time. I just want to be a husband." At the last he can't meet her eyes, embarrassed as he is to say it so bluntly. It's been decades since he let himself want something that badly, desired it with ever fiber of himself, but everything in Albert right now cries out to be permanently bound to his partner. Jet said yes months ago, it's already been too long.

He twists the ring around his finger, waiting for her to laugh at him.

[personal profile] confidentially 2014-08-22 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Jessica wouldn't laugh at him, not over this. Her expression softens then, and she reaches for Albert's hand. "Maybe we could find someone who could do it tonight. I'll ask around, you know, covertly. You'll get to be a husband, Albert. I promise you will."
silberfuchs: (apologetic)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-08-22 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Only if you really think it wouldn't work to get us out of this damned mini arena." He stops shot, squeezing her hand a little then stopping suddenly as if he has a bad taste in his mouth, then sighs. He'd meant to say verdammt, not damned. It's a small distinction but an important one.

"They even take our languages away. What next?" He clicks his teeth in frustration. "The last thing I want, honestly, is for Jet to be in another one of these. I don't care for me, generally I've been through worse, but after what Kevin did..."

No. He can't risk that happening to Jet. Not again. Call it selfish, but he can't watch it again. Albert squeezes Jessica's hand, this time fully. "Thank you, Jessica. I know it's been difficult, but I'm very grateful for your help."

"I'll do whatever I can. I mean it." Her eyes graced the ground, just for a moment. "My tributes are all I have left."
silberfuchs: (quiet enjoyment)

He keeps hold on her hands, glad that at least one of his goals here has been achieved. She's improving with other things to think about. The pain will likely never leave her - he knows that pain of loss too intimately himself to give her the false hope that it might - but she'll learn to use it. She's a strong woman, Albert's come to find, and he respects that strength even if she has trouble seeing it at times.

"I'm counting on you." He smiles softly. "I do have one more favor to ask, though, if that's alright."

"Well, however the wedding happens..." He squeezes her fingers gently in his. "I'd like you to be a part of it in some way."

It's tantamount to him telling her she's important to him, and she is. She very much is despite their rocky first conversation and his initial misconceptions. He grins a little. "You can even bring Barbie as your date, if you'd like."

[personal profile] confidentially 2014-10-07 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The grin on her face is teasing, but not in her usual superior way. This time it's incredibly gentle. "Was there ever any doubt I'd insert myself somehow? Puh-leeze, Albert. I'm gonna give you away."
silberfuchs: (surprised)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-10-07 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Give me away!?" The look that crosses Albert's face is completely comical; being given away is traditionally for the bride and her father, not... well, but, nothing about their wedding is really traditional, is it?

He's quiet a moment, staring at her, but not really at her, more like the space between them at the table. Finally, he smiles a bit. "Well, if that's how it's done, then sure."
confidentially: (like superstars do)

[personal profile] confidentially 2014-10-13 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
She laughed playfully, linking her arms with his. "You'll have the nicest wedding you've ever imagined, Albert. Just leave it to me. I've already got a plan coming together."
silberfuchs: (adoring)

wrapping up?

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-10-13 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Alright, I trust you." To do what's best in the situation, maybe, but not necessarily to make this his 'dream wedding'. Still, what does he need a dream wedding for? As long as Jet's there and they exchange vows, what else does he need?

And besides, she seems so much more cheerful with a pet project.

"You're officially the wedding planner."
confidentially: (i wonder how bad that tastes)

"Leave everything to me," she nodded in agreement before leaning in to kiss his cheek. "Everything will go exactly according to plan."
