Heroes, queens and survivors, oh my! [Partially-open]

[Clementine finds out that Steve is out of the arena pretty soon after she comes down off the roof, her head feeling a lot clearer for the fresh air. The screens are doing highlights of deaths so far and she see's... well, there's no need to linger on the details.

It's easy to go up to District 9 past 6 and knock on the door. Far more appealing than going back to her own empty room. She wants to check on her friends and be amongst company rather than alone with her thoughts. It's not just Steve she knows here either, there's Dave who's also out of the arena by now.]

So basically what happened is that this guy came for me, and I was having none of that shit, so I was like hiiiiiiyaaaaaaaah. And I kicked him in his asshole face. [Dave walks in midstory, Elsa alongside him. His sentence is adorned with kicks and punches because he hadn't thought anyone was up and about. But there are. Lots of people. Twos of people. There's Clem, he knows Clem, he'll stare at Clem for a moment. His face burns a little when he realises the other guy is Captain America. The Captain America. In his District. Being all buff there while he's telling Elsa wildly exaggerated tales of triumph.]

And uh. That'd be how that one ended. [He nods at Elsa, sagging his shoulders as he tries to act casual.] Hi Clem, I see you brought more doritos. [He cocks his head toward Steve.] ..Since when were you in this district?

Harley sighed happily "I miss my babies. Last I was in town they were back at the Gotham Zoo. I'd have gone to bust them out but things were a little crazy when I left and came here."

Back to the matter at hand she grins broadly "You bet! Peanut butter and jelly, tacos, cream puffs, grass, even gross ones like ear wax and boogers. It's like playing Russian Roulette with your taste buds."

"That doesn' even make sense." Harley complained as she chewed on the candy balls with loud crunching sounds coming from her cheeks. "I can sleep naked if I want, and still wear all these fashion forward outfits when I'm out and about. Why wouldn't I?" Sometimes Harley wondered if Mindy had a few too many concussions. It was a legitimate concern in their field of work.

"Yeah, but I don't think that you do," Mindy said. "First off, that just seems weird, to have all that and sleep in the nude. I dunno, you just strike me as more the girl who sleeps with PJ's."

Mindy, of course, usually had no formal Pjs, just a tank top and short shorts.

"And what would even be the point?"

Clementine is too curious and too daring not to do what she does next.

"Can I try some?"

"Comfort of course!" She protested stretching her arms out wide and arching her back. "Freedom of movement! I may not always do it but I do it sometimes and that's none of your business minor." She added with a tease.

"What my boobs and I do in my bed is between me, Ivy, Suzie Q, Elsa and maybe some sponsors." To be honest her list was much longer but she had already broken the rule of three.

"Of course!" Harley held the bag out to her with a wink.

"If you get something gross you can always try again!"

"Hey, I don't want it to be my business," Mindy protested, rolling her eyes. "I'm all for freedom of movement, but keep your boobs to yourself. Nudity is not my thing."

At least not for a few years. Her mind was busy elsewhere.

Gossip, however, she always had time for. "Elsa? Why her? You guys room together?"

Dragging the bag of candy after her into the fortress of pillows and blankets that was being constructed Harley explained "Nah, not yet. But she's such a cutie and I just can't help but want to help her. She's a great big bundle of emotional issues with powers to boot." She grinned cheekily.

"She'll never win on purpose, she's too nice for it."

"I can't help but wonder what you mean when you say that you want to help her," Mindy said dryly. "You tried to help Susannah too. See how that turned out? I saw her powers though, and they're pretty impressive."

She groaned. "Another softie? Jesus. I hope she snaps out of it. That Prince Hans fuck did her in the last time. That doesn't need to happen again."

"Hey, don't bogart that, pass it over," Mindy insisted. "I can be gross too, you know."

"Now now, let's not go talking trash on her brother-in-law-to-be." Harley admonished with a finger wag. "He's madly in love with her sister remember? And the two of them get along great. Prince Sideburns was just giving her a mercy kill after she impaled her sister!" She reminded Mindy.

"And after that she got squished by falling logs trying to save my life. That noble heart of hers is gonna get her in trouble more and more."

"That guy makes me suspicious," she said darkly. "I won't say that to Elsa, but I don't know if I trust that motherfucker. Something about him is too...perfect."

She didn't care HOW well they gt along. Her interest of welfare was Elsa's too begin with.

"I missed the latest one. Has she eaten it yet?"

"Thanks." Clementine says, blindly pulling one of the sweets out before Mindy takes her turn.

She examines the one she's picked for a moment, it's a deep green and that could mean any possible number of things. After a moments consideration Clem shrugs and pops it in her mouth to chew, "Darn, I think I got spinach!" she says after a moment, pulling a face as a she swallows.

[Anyone else would be calling bullshit on Dave's stories, but not Elsa. After seeing some of what Dave is capable of, she can't help but believe him. So she's listening intently as the two of them walk, her eyes widening at all of the right moments.

That sounds like it must have been painful for the other guy...

[She's confused when Dave suddenly stops, before she realizes that he's staring at a couple of other people.]

Oh, hello!

[She gives them a small wave, though she has no idea who they are. Dave seems to be familiar with them- or at least Clem.]

I'm Elsa, I don't think I've met either of you?

Harley didn't seem too impressed by Mindy's hunch but she let it slide.

"Not that I'd seen, she's really gotten the hang of her ice powers though." Harley grinned "I'm so proud of her I could pop. Her problems are mostly based around anxiety and fear of herself. But I'm sure with some time I can make sure that's never a problem for her again." She mused with a gleam in her eye.

"Shepard is making short work of that, from what I hear," Mindy said. "It's that hesitance in her own abilities that fucking sucks. She's good, is really the problem. I don't mind good people, but they have to be fucking practical too. You can't NOT be willing to take the other guy out if they have it in for you. I don't want a repeat of her past performances."

Harley laughed at the face Clem made. "Well that's the way the game is played I guess. The Odds weren't in your favor that time. Let's see if we can't find one to wash that flavor out huh?" She offered leading the girls over to a coffee table.

Here she took a small wooden bowl and upended the bean bag so they could see all the colors should they decide to be more choosy about their beans. After that she began digging through the bag setting out all the other candy treats she'd brought. Large colorful fruit balls, little white pellets that fizzed and foamed in your mouth with flavor, and long tubes of pure colorful sugar that would change the color of your tongue.

And the chocolate, stacks of different flavored chocolate.

Mindy grabbed a gray one, just to make things interesting, then promptly made a face.

"Yeeugh. Pepper. That's gonna be a shitty aftertaste."

She followed Harley to her stash, and her eyes went wide with astonishment. She promptly grabbed at the pellets, letting it fizz over her face and mockingly going after Clementine as if she had rabies.

Harley pouted at the indication that Shepard was doing her job for her. Shepard and Harley had only had one previous interaction and it had been Shepard catching Harley with an arm around her throat and knocking her to the ground just in time for both of them to get eaten by Raptors.

But you'd have to be blind not to see the profound effect Shepard had on people around here. It was a sort of inspiring power that Harley had only previously known when training on Themiscyra.

"I don't think even Shepard could get her to kill people without breaking her some." Harley countered. She's grown up training herself to protect a kingdom but from a Queen's standpoint. That means having soldiers to do the dirty work for her. And from the sounds of things her kingdoms never really been at war so long as she's been aware."

As long as Elsa was getting stronger, Mindy wouldn't give a damn who trained her. They had several different tributes to worry about, so having Elsa believe in herself made their a little bit easier.

"If Elsa doesn't train her to kill, I'm not going to beat it into her. Not everyone who goes into the Arena gets far because of killing. Still, it'd be a good thing for her to learn. I'll be just as pleased if she learns how to use a weapon."

Clementine giggled at Mindy's expression when she ate hers. "Wish I'd had a camera for that, it was really -- ah! Mindy!" she laughed, throwing up her hands in playful defence, dashing round the table and then behind Harley.

Feeling a bit better now that she had gotten Mindy's view on it Harley relaxed "Yeah well, baby steps. At least I've seen her do a little fencing so I know she's got some defensive skills with a blade." But she was hardly a match for anyone with real swordsmenship skills.

"The best part is she got such great PR the first few weeks of being here. First a truly dramatic and unforgettable death, then she won that commercial deal in the hoverbike races."

"Don't forget the fucking ice castle. That was pretty sweet too. All around, Elsa is a girl that you want to win. So long as she's showing that to the sponsors, she'll have people lining up to give her support."

She would make sure the pervier ones were kept away though. No doubt trying to fulfill fantasy's of being with a queen, Mindy left them col, opting more for the ones who could see her potential.

"I could show her what I know about swords, but I'm used to smaller blades. Getting a little bit of tutoring there myself from that woman Sonja."

[The compliment gets a smile from Steve - it's been a while since he did art for anything more than a hobby, once it was going to be his life. But that was gone when he chose the path of a soldier.

He's just about to answer her question when more people arrive, both familiar in ways that he might have seen their faces on TV or in passing, but nothing more. Sounds like one of them has quite the notion for stories.

He raises an eyebrow at the question, he saw the boy's reaction to either him or Clem - though his knowing her indicates it might be more about him. Still, the question without introduction is curious. Almost familiar.] Handful of weeks now. Worried you missed my arrival?

[But as he answers the young man's questions, he raises to his feet to greet the lady properly with a friendly smile.]

It's a pleasure as it can be, Ms. Elsa, I'm Steve Rogers and this is my friend- [He gestures to Clem, letting her introduce herself.]
