Patient Zero Plot

[OOC: patients, post a subthread and one of the doctor characters will be with you shortly. Feel free to specify if you want one in particular.]

In a city as monitored as the Capitol, that a mystery disease was going around didn't escape notice for more than a few days. That both Victory Hannibal and Chris Traeger such a production of their 'impending death of the plague' didn't help it stay under wraps, either.

As such, a clinic of sorts has been set up inside the Tribute Center. Tributes, Mentors and anyone else associated with the Games are taken aside at random and given check-ups. Avoxes are given lists of prescriptions to help any sufferers alleviate symptoms, and the doctors and scientists on staff (recruited by Peacekeeping Headquarters right now) are given relatively free reign to take whatever tests they need to find the name of the illness and kill it.

Currently, it is staffed by Penny, Wesker and Zoidberg.

He squints at the other man for a moment, taking careful breaths as the cough begins to fade. Marvelous. Just what he needed.

It's an unkind thought. Roland knows that. What harm has this man done him, after all, but exist? Roland gathers himself. Straightens. "Sai Dean." Roland's eyes flicker over his shoulder, wary, but none of those working at the clinic seem to have noticed him yet. Or if they have, seem too busy to do anything about it.

"Good to see you well. What brings you here?" Polite nonsense, it's very clear what brought him here. But it's a strange position he's in with Eddie's twinner - polite nonsense seems the only real option. Hopefully he'll be able to navigate his way out of the conversation as soon as possible, before anyone else decides to keep him here.

"They wanted to run some tests. Make sure I'm not sick, figure out what super cells are keeping me powered."

He lifts his arms, mocking a pumping of his biceps, before grinning at Roland. Awkwardly.

How did one guy make him feel so damn awkward.

"How you doin'? Any idea what's going on?"

Roland watches the gesture, the joke, without much change in his expression of mild, polite interest. The motion, of course, makes him think of Eddie, what Eddie's own muscles had been like before and after a couple weeks spent dragging Roland's dying body across a neverending beach. Eddie's transformation, in body and in mind.

He hunches his shoulders as more of that shivering starts, pulling his jacket tighter and trying to hold himself still. "People are sick," he says, and shakes his head. "Beyond that, you probably know more than I do. But if you're not ill yet, and they're not holding you here, it'd be wise to stay away. This's no place for a healthy person to stay longer than he has to."

He should, and he knew he should.

But he lingers, and he isn't sure why.

"Should...when Suze gets back..."

He isn't sure bringing her up is a good idea. It feels like a cheap in, and one he doesn't actually want to bring into the conversation.

Too late now.

"They'll send her here, won't they?" He takes a breath and purses his lips, thinking on it and apparently taking no issue with the topic. Susannah's chosen this Eddie. What exactly she's chosen him to be isn't something Roland's spent too much thought on, but it's no great surprise that he'd be concerned about her.

"You could pay someone to keep watch for you, if you've the coin. If you, ah-" Roland turns his head, putting the back of a hand over his mouth as he coughs. Gilead may not have known half so much about illness as this place, but he does know not to cough directly onto someone. Not everyone here will be so considerate. Seriously, Eddie, even standing here is a risk. "If you know someone who works here, that'd be even better. They'd tell you when she arrives and you can come get her. 'Stead of waiting." He lets himself lean against the wall a little bit, glancing over the other man's shoulder at the clinic, then longingly at the elevator.

"I haven't quite figured out the process here yet."

As a nurse rushed passed, arguing over some details with someone at the other end of a communicator, he shrugged and pointed.

"Clearly I'm not the only one. Sickness isn't something the Capitol is use to. We get it more in the Districts..."

Maybe that was shy he wasn't getting sick. His immunity had to be far better than most of them.

"That's your risk to take," he says, nodding. He's warned sai Dean, and the man's chosen to stay anyway. That's all there is to it. Roland edges to the side, a little close to the elevator, and lets his head and shoulders sag tiredly as the remnants of the cough sputter from his throat. If this were someone he was close to, Roland would be making the effort to look, if not normal, then close to it. But here and now? Roland will absolutely allow himself to look as weak as he feels if it gets him a polite way out of the conversation. "I wish you luck of it."
