Effie had tried very hard to make this a party that was actually made for the tributes, not made to show them off.

She had tried very, very hard.

The food was what she had been able to investigate as “home” cooking for those she could track down, an odd arrangement of food that sometimes got close to the tributes home food, and sometimes was a terrible disaster. Blood pudding, for example, was a dish best avoided. But then it usually was.

The best hits reel had been her idea. It took a tense conversation with Haymitch and about 45 minutes to convince her that now, that wasn’t really what any Tribute wanted to see when they were trying to relax.

After that the party was much nicer, mellow music, holiday cheer and, for a holiday party, fairly low key. Lorne had karoke going in one room, while another had a large glittering Christmas tree and mellow music playing, with the District 12 windows wide open to show the snow covered city underneath.

"So you don't think me stabbing the guy's butt to death has anything to do with it?" Lindsey didn't know whether to be annoyed or amused.

"Think that's only one part of it." He hadn't forgotten what his brother was like when something was eating at him.

"One part of it? That's everything of it. Ill feelings tend to happen when you kill someone." Lindsey turned away from both Lorne's direction and Eliot's insistence.

Eliot stared at his brother for a moment, remembering what he'd said when he'd first arrived. "Lorne killed you," he said quietly. "Before they brought you here. He's the one."

There was a slight stiffening in Lindsey's shoulders when Eliot made the connection. "I never said that," Lindsey denied, but he wasn't saying Eliot was wrong either. Yet when Lindsey turned to look back at the green demon, it wasn't hatred in his eyes. Not like when he talked about his killer that first time.

Eliot shook his head. "Not so hard to figure out. You said whoever did was a Tribute. and he's the only one you act like this around."

"He's also the only guy who I killed in the arena that I also bumped into out here," he pointed out. It was a fair argument all things considering.

"This isn't your guilty act, Linds. It's what you've always done what someone hurt ya."

"Do what?" he asked, sounding annoyed that Eliot wouldn't let this go. It wasn't something he wanted to get into right now, not while they were the socialites in a party.

"Lash out and then act like a kicked puppy." He sighed, knowing his twin wouldn't like the description. "Come on, help me pick out somethin' to sing."

Not liking was a fair estimation, lashing out was it also. "I did," he said with a smile that should remind people of sharks, "If you don't want to sing it, you can go pick your own."

"Hey, I'm only singin' that if ya sing it with me. And do the hand motions," Eliot retorted.

"No," Lindsey said crossly and gave his brother a half glare. Then finally breaking down in exasperation, he nodded in Lorne's direction. "He can suggest something if you don't have any ideas."

"Wouldn't be an issue if we had a guitar."

"I haven't played in a long time."

"I never played that much."
