seemed easier than just waiting around to die; (OPEN)
Who| Nat and YOU!
What| Another newcomer and the fronts she puts on
Where| District 8 floor, shopping area, wherever else
When| With the rest of the newbies
Warnings/Notes| #comics (N/A)
Whoever her abductors were, they were good enough to capture the Black Widow without it being a part of her plan and therefore in doing so have earned themselves her temporary cooperation. It isn't that she wants to rebel (because she does), but there were more important matters to tend to other than pointlessly question those who will deny her significant answers. That and she's had decades of experience when it came to asking questions: these goons aren't going to tell her what she needs to know.
The next best thing is to experience it herself. The first chance she gets to peel away from the other tributes and those watching her, Natasha takes it and explores to her heart's content. If there's something or someone out there she needs to find, she'll be sure to do it before entering a death arena.
➊ (DISTRICT 8 FLOOR)
Natasha's time here is minimal. Just enough to memorize faces, to pick apart those who might seem familiar and those who aren't, and to identify who may be trouble later on. There's no hint to what her skill set may be when she's around others, choosing instead to feign ignorance and charm others with a smile that shows her discomfort. The role she plays today is that of a scared woman, who has just been ripped from an everyday life to participate in a bloodbath. A woman who is petrified of death, but attempts to face it with a brave face.
It's a flimsy mask and Natasha already fears something may slip through the cracks. Her thoughts are elsewhere, but she remains focused on her role until she leaves the Training Center building.
➋ (SHOPPING)
It isn't so out of character for a woman to take up retail therapy when something devastating happens to her, so Natasha lingers in this area for a good amount of time. There's a lot to take in, but more importantly the people are vocal with their conversations so there's plenty of information to be found. This is what she thrives on, the good honest speculation is more reliable than any book she can request at the Training Center.
There's also no harm in looking at what's for sale either. What better way to understand the culture than to look over the absurd things they value?
➌ (OPEN)
OOC | Have an idea or already coordinated something with me? Feel free to hit me up with anything.

The touch of her fingers on his arm only solidified that feeling of familiarity, the thought that maybe there was a way out of this sickening mess. If she was here, they could find a way out.
"Natasha?" Matt whispers, not caring that they aren't lovers anymore and haven't been in ages. He reaches for her cheek, just to touch her, to confirm that his radar isn't faulty. Now that he can focus on her pulse, he knows it's really her, but he wants to be certain. He's been fooled before.

Her heart races with excitement and fear both at the same time. Few things make her happy, so being with someone who she can rely on to remind her where she belongs is a good thing, a much welcomed addition to the rest of the shit that was this situation. The other side of the coin is that someone she legitimately cares for has been assigned as a possible enemy in this world and that only one of them can walk out of this death arena.
Maybe he's just a visitor. Maybe there's some other reason he's here and it isn't to fight. The possibility that he's been brought here as leverage against her is a better one than having to endure the thought of harm coming to him.

Some horrifying tale about an arena where one person came out the winner after murdering everyone else. It was gut wrenching and it made Matt feel sick inside, but he was still clinging to the notion that there would be someway out of this mess. At least with Natasha here, he knew someone intelligent and sneaky was likely pondering the same thing.
"They just sent me up here. Have you been here very long?" Thinking back, he'd been off the grid for awhile and hadn't heard from her in months. Maybe that's why she's been so distant lately. These messed up aliens (or whatever they were. Humans? Pfft!) had kidnapped her and kept her from contacting him. It makes sense. Kind of.

They both know the kind of cruel person she can be. It isn't a malicious act, but it's the price of loving someone who has built a life on disappearing on whim. It's a reminder she doesn't surrender easily, choosing instead to tell him the truth.
"Just a couple days." Even when she says that, she sounds so unsure. Losing track of time is easy enough when she doesn't get any sleep at night. If she's good at hiding all the other hints that something foul is up, that's the telltale sign that something is way up. "There are others from home here too, but come."
Tugging on his arm to lead him with a bit more urgency than natural for her. "There's no such thing as privacy here so don't fluster yourself over joining me in my designated room."

They are in her room when he finally works up the nerve to speak again. "So this isn't some mixed up dream. You know, until you found me, I was really hoping this was all my mind playing tricks on me."
no subject
"Does your mind do this to you often?" A selfish question, but one she needs the answer to. Answers to anything she can get will help set her mind at ease even if it creates more questions in the meantime. "Ought to get that checked out if so."
no subject
It can't ever be like that again.
"My mind's better than it had been in a long, long time." He says it reassuringly, because this time it's true. This time he isn't crazy. This time he's got things in perspective. Or at least, he had perspective up until he got sucked into an alternate reality and told he was about to fight to the death. "What about you? Is it just you and me? Or did your buddies get dragged into this hell too?"
no subject
Lovingly. Yes, she can only look at him in the way she always has despite the ache in her chest.
"A few of the Avengers are here." Using that term holds a hidden significance to it, one she hopes he can read. If they were using that title and holding it close, then it meant they were behind them in the times. An alternate reality like this one. "James as well."
Funny she mentions him after kissing Matt.
no subject
What really gave him a start was the mention of James.
"If he's here, what are you doing with me?" He wondered out loud, voice mixing amusement and just a sliver of annoyance. Nothing against Mister Barnes or anything, but Matt had always had a difficult time letting Natasha go. It wasn't just their mired and muddied history. She meant a lot to him. Aside from Foggy, she was his closest friend in the world. She'd had his back when no one else did, when everyone had thought he was a washed up nobody. Somehow, the advent of new boyfriends and girlfriends (and wives) seemed to complicate all of that.
