The Crowning of Mindy McReady

Who| Everyone who's anyone.
What| The Crowning.
Where| A warehouse on the edge of town.
When| Starting from early evening till late into the night.
Warnings/Notes| Be sure to check the linked thread for plot purposes, even if you don't tag into it.

The party is brightly colored.

The theme, subtly, is super heroes. Boldly paints city scapes are splattered across the walls, and hallways are made to look like dingy, potentially crime ridden alleys. From the upper walkways of the warehouse, party goers can get hooked into harnesses and swing out over the dance floor. Above them, tributes and VIPS can find themselves on a clear plastic dance floor levitated above everything, looking like they're hanging in air.

Masks are passed out in plenty, and capes are easy to find, while brightly colored drinks themed around super powers are plentiful. None of them actually work, but many of the Capitol people are happy to pretend, mocking super strength or invisibility with each new beverage.

Under the dance floor a catacomb of tunnels and rooms full of obstacles is splashed with black light receptive colors. Party goers are given vests and laser guns, marked green for villains and red for heros, and set loose to hunt each other in the laser tags playground. The screens in the dance floor keep a running tally of which side is winning, displaying the players on the screens around the room, along with clips from the arenas.

About half way through the night, everyone is gathered to the main stage for a special announcement.

It was his first and that fact kind of made him feel even more like the baby that Raphael always chided he was. He couldn't help it, though. Not after everything else. He was strong, but-

The voice was happy distraction and he even shot her a mischievous little smile to hide a near grimace from the comment. "Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Literally. What about you? Don't want to cover up that pretty face?"

She answered that with a smile.

"No, I've just been wearing it too long. Taking a breather."

She gestured at their surroundings.

"Welcome to the Capitol pulling out all the stops."
casaerotica13: (hurhur)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-16 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah." He waved nonchalantly at the crowd. "I made it here just in time for their last big shindig. This one requires less of them probing my personal space, though."
formersurgeon: (uncertain)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-17 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, the last one was weird. In a really disturbing way. If they never do that again, it will be too soon."

She nodded toward the nearest Peacekeeper.

"Surveillance is less likely to break down, though."
casaerotica13: (needs something)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-19 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
"The who what now?"

He heard what she said, but didn't understand it. Had there been a breach last time? In their own minds?

"If surveillance can break down in Inceptionland, it sounds pretty possible anywhere, don't you think?"
formersurgeon: (concerned)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-19 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
She was not about to be very specific about what happened and when.

"There was a glitch or something. I think the technique was new...I heard one of my escorts mention it afterward."

Her voice was perfectly nonchalant.

"There's more redundancy here."
casaerotica13: (youre odd)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-20 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that was good to know. Even these guys were still human underneath, playing with their toys that were far too much for them. Figures.

"Neat," was his only comment to that. "Weird how that works out, I guess. Can't beat the old ways. Most of the time. If you have a blunt enough stick." Okay, he needed to stop. "Want a drink? Maybe another dance?"
formersurgeon: (Default)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-20 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
She wasn't drinking that night, in interest of keeping her mind sharp. But.

"Sure," she answered, giving him a half smile. "Let's dance."

She glanced up at where the cameras might have been, then back at him.

"I'm sure the viewers at home would get excited. Us dancing here, after our encounter in the Arena."
casaerotica13: (OH RLY)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-20 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, what? He didn't expect that after last time, but the smile just grows. "Screw the viewers. I'm the one excited. I promise not to drag you around this time?"

Gabe holds his hand out to her, like an actual gentleman. "M'lady?"
formersurgeon: (oh really)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-20 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"You'd better not."

Maybe he really didn't have any interest in the larger game, in the story or the spectacle.

She gave him a slight, amused smile and took his hand.
casaerotica13: (play your roles)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-22 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
This was turning into quite the enjoyment and a wonderful distraction from his troubles. All the better, he figured. Nothing he could do about anything else. Might as well stop being a mope for five minutes.

"I keep my word," he mockingly whined, leading them to the dance floor, "most of the time. I can't say that the mood lighting will be the same, though."
formersurgeon: (oh yeah?)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-22 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah...I'd trade mood lighting for dancing of my own free will any day."

Once they were on the dance floor she turned to face him, grasping one of his hands and settling the other on his shoulder.
casaerotica13: (lol you)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-22 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Good. It's what I fought for." He held her hand in his, the other lightly on her hip. He was actually being a decent gentleman for once. Just don't ask about his porn career.

He begins with a step, taking the lead in their song.
formersurgeon: (oh really)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-25 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
She follows, dancing easily.

"What you fought for?" she asks, eyebrows raised and smiling slightly. "If you're the Gabriel from tradition, you're in pretty tight with God. Isn't it Lucifer who did the fighting?"
casaerotica13: (youre so cute)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-26 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that brings a laugh out of him. A deep one that he almost seems to force out.

"We all fought at one point or another. Luci never fought for free will. Just whined, mostly."

Gabriel died for free will, but he doesn't make a point to say that. He also wasn't really tight with God, but he doesn't say that either. He had been thinking recently that some people knew too much and there were too many religious folks running around. What if they found out an archangel was among their slaughters? What if they found out God had abandoned them, too? Hope would vanish, so Gabriel kept a lot of things to himself lately.

Not that he didn't like Joan or her deductive skills. He loved answering the right questions, it was just up to them to find those questions. He wasn't going to really lie, after all.
formersurgeon: (job well done)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-26 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Luci," she repeated with an amused smirk. "I'm sure he loves that."

She pauses for a moment, just dancing, before speaking again.

"You're working with thousands of years of tradition here. The bible, and Dante, and Milton. How much of it is true?"

It wasn't that she necessarily believed the whole angel thing...she was just more likely to get information if she sounded like she believed it.
casaerotica13: (know it all)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-27 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"'Bout as much as he loves me," he answered with a smirk of his own and managing to not really betray anything. Good job, he reminds himself.

To the question, he just shrugged. "Most of it. Fall of Luci. Fall of man. Hell being layered up like a strip mall. Those stories had to come from somewhere, right?"
formersurgeon: (listen)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-27 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I think the human imagination could have come up with a lot of it."

She glances away, then back at him.

"What do you think about this place?"
casaerotica13: (much surprise)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-27 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
"They are pretty imaginative," he agreed, sort of catching the hint of un-Christian thinking and not really caring in the least. However, he did wonder why she enjoyed interrogating him so much if she didn't believe in any of it. Perhaps there were truths in fiction, even to her.

His mind leaves that subject quickly enough as he shrugs and tries to come up with an answer that's the truth without someone shooting him between the eyes. "The liquor's pretty great," he finally said, "Lots of different kinds of chocolate. Got a nice robe, too, from those race thingys. Got my name on it and everything."
formersurgeon: (elegant)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-27 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Mmm."

Very smart.

"It's weird, though, being watched all the time. Although...I don't know. I imagine working for God has that drawback, too. Or, with. Or against."
casaerotica13: (youre odd)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-27 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I told you," he said, smirking as if she were silly, "He doesn't care. Not even here to care, honestly."
formersurgeon: (hand on hip)

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-04-27 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
"You said you fought for free will, though. If not God, who did you fight?"

The idea that God was not present didn't phase her a bit.
casaerotica13: (hellz yeah)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-04-27 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
"You can't fight God." That's what happened to Luci, after all. "No, no. Dad told us that Michael and Lucifer had to fight to the death. If Lucifer won, it would be Hell on Earth and everyone dies. If Michael won, almost everyone would die and those that were left would be completely without corruption or faults. Naturally, he said that Michael was to be the winner, so they all started getting ready to tear each other's necks out with their teeth and so on."

He shrugged, once again, like it was no big deal. "I fought Lucifer and Michael. Couple of stuck up, whine bags. Didn't get the chance to raise my hand against Daddy's favorite, but I did against the massive disappointment of the family... And now I'm here. Considering that I told two knuckle heads how to throw his ass back into Hell and lock the door behind him, I'd like to think I helped."

[personal profile] formersurgeon 2014-05-02 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"So...you fought to stop Armageddon. Why? Because you like humans? Or because you don't like your brothers?"

She wasn't beginning to completely believe all this, necessarily. But even if it weren't true, he certainly believed it, and she was getting more and more interested in the story.

Or so she told herself.
casaerotica13: (sorry)

[personal profile] casaerotica13 2014-05-19 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I love my brothers," he answered sincerely, face falling from his usual jovial state. "I left Heaven, because I couldn't stand the fighting. It wasn't the self-interest of getting away. I couldn't stop it, so I chose not to see it. I fought for humanity and my brothers. Excuse me if I didn't want anyone to die."

Gabriel reined himself back in from that little sliver of emotion that passed through. Things were just hard to hold up here.
