The Crowning of Mindy McReady

Who| Everyone who's anyone.
What| The Crowning.
Where| A warehouse on the edge of town.
When| Starting from early evening till late into the night.
Warnings/Notes| Be sure to check the linked thread for plot purposes, even if you don't tag into it.

The party is brightly colored.

The theme, subtly, is super heroes. Boldly paints city scapes are splattered across the walls, and hallways are made to look like dingy, potentially crime ridden alleys. From the upper walkways of the warehouse, party goers can get hooked into harnesses and swing out over the dance floor. Above them, tributes and VIPS can find themselves on a clear plastic dance floor levitated above everything, looking like they're hanging in air.

Masks are passed out in plenty, and capes are easy to find, while brightly colored drinks themed around super powers are plentiful. None of them actually work, but many of the Capitol people are happy to pretend, mocking super strength or invisibility with each new beverage.

Under the dance floor a catacomb of tunnels and rooms full of obstacles is splashed with black light receptive colors. Party goers are given vests and laser guns, marked green for villains and red for heros, and set loose to hunt each other in the laser tags playground. The screens in the dance floor keep a running tally of which side is winning, displaying the players on the screens around the room, along with clips from the arenas.

About half way through the night, everyone is gathered to the main stage for a special announcement.

While Enjolras wasn't one for physical contact, Courfeyrac certainly was. Wordlessly, he seemed to attach himself to Enjolras' arm, whether or not his friend wanted him to. He couldn't explain it, he simply needed that human interaction, that wordless support. Their squabbles were forgotten in an instant. His battered face didn't matter anymore. He just needed his friend.

"I fear I shall go insane." He grabbed roughly at Enjolras' elbow, oblivious to the stares in their direction. "I need something stronger than wine. Come with me. Let's drink."

Enjolras cast a look warily around the room, not because of the sudden contact and what might be inferred from it, but rather because it was never a good idea to over indulge (or indulge at all) when there were so many people eager to listen into their conversations present. In the city, people were curious about them as one might be curious about some sort of exotic animal. It was annoying, of course, but not malicious. Here, at a state sponsored, Games-related event, the same could not be said. Here, they were being observed in everything that they did.

He swallowed, allowing himself to be pulled along where ever Courfeyrac intended that they go. "Alright, but not here. I keep wine and absinthe in the District 5 suite. We can drink there if that is what you want. Bring whomever you wish."

"Absinthe?" Courfeyrac managed to smile, the typical spark in his dark eyes somewhat diminished. He made no move to release his hold on Enjolras' just yet, instead tilting his head more closely so as to guard what the blonde was saying from prying eyes. He'd suddenly come to realize that all eyes were upon them, though he saw nothing at all strange about taking hold of his friend. "You've become a lush while I've been away. Yes, I think I might be convinced to take some of that off your hands for you. When shall we depart? I should like to do my drinking alone tonight."

Alone, and with Enjolras, was what he meant. He was in too rough a mental state to let Cindy or Max see him just yet.

"I have become what I have become." Enjolras sighed heavily. Lush implied that he outright enjoyed his dalliances with liquor and that would have been an over statement. Rather, there was a use to them, particularly when one needed a way to block out the world and the paranoia brought on by constant surveillance.

The majority of which was more insidious if less obtrusive than the eyes that currently followed their movements. Now that they had the attention of the crowd, it would be difficult to lose it again. "We can go now. They already think me disdainful of their customs."

He nodded, sticking close to Enjolras before coming to a halt a moment later. He didn't want to see Max or Cindy, but he knew full well that if he left without speaking with them, he would hear about it in the morning. Such was the fate of the smitten man. "I cannot go just yet, my friend. I must speak with the ladies first. I am sure they would not forgive me if I left the party without kissing them goodbye. You understand, I am sure."

For the first time in his life, Enjolras could say that he did, in fact, understand that. He nodded in tentative agreement. While it would be nice, fantastic, even, to leave the party, there were still things he could accomplish here. Venus had mentioned Kankri and Ellie, and he had yet to find either of them.

"I do. Go find Cinderella and your young friend. They will be just as upset about this as you are and will need your support." It was, of course, unfair to suggest the person experiencing the hardship should be the supportive one, but that was what it would comedown to here. Moreover, Enjolras doubted if Courfeyrac would really be willing to let himself be supported fully by any of them. The Courfeyrac's friends could probably hope for was achieving a balance, a mutually dependent net through which perhaps they could lean against one another. "Come to me whenever you like tonight."

With another curt nod and a squeeze to Enjolras' upper arm, Courfeyrac departed, disappearing into the throngs of people. He was a man on a mission and he would not be swayed in his task. He would, however, keep his word and meet up with Enjolras later that night...
