The Crowning of Mindy McReady

The party is brightly colored.

The theme, subtly, is super heroes. Boldly paints city scapes are splattered across the walls, and hallways are made to look like dingy, potentially crime ridden alleys. From the upper walkways of the warehouse, party goers can get hooked into harnesses and swing out over the dance floor. Above them, tributes and VIPS can find themselves on a clear plastic dance floor levitated above everything, looking like they're hanging in air.

Masks are passed out in plenty, and capes are easy to find, while brightly colored drinks themed around super powers are plentiful. None of them actually work, but many of the Capitol people are happy to pretend, mocking super strength or invisibility with each new beverage.

Under the dance floor a catacomb of tunnels and rooms full of obstacles is splashed with black light receptive colors. Party goers are given vests and laser guns, marked green for villains and red for heros, and set loose to hunt each other in the laser tags playground. The screens in the dance floor keep a running tally of which side is winning, displaying the players on the screens around the room, along with clips from the arenas.

About half way through the night, everyone is gathered to the main stage for a special announcement.

"I'm not gong to be able to fight anymore, supposedly, so there's no way I'd miss it."

And miss it she would. The fight with Pruna had reminded her of a very shameful fact: she DID enjoy pitting her skills against someone. It was the being forced to coupled with the killing that just made it suck.

Pruna nodded, "Do you think you will be being able to be doing it? No be fighting anymore." Because Pruna wasn't sure she would be able to if she ever won. Though it wouldn't stop her from trying to win.

"No." Might as well answer truthfully. "I've been doing it too long to stop. There might have been a time I would have, maybe, back home, but now? Please. What would I even DO after?"

"Be being really bored." Pruna told her wrinkling her nose. "I do no be thinking I could be stopping either."

[hit_girl_mindy]

"I mean, granted, I might start doing SOME of these horrible Capitol based activities, like sky diving. The motorcycle thing was actually pretty bad ass too. I wanna ask Barbara if she's got any other tricks up her sleeve."

"The motorcycles did be being so cool." Pruna grinned, "We did be going awesome fast and you should be doing it more, do you think you could be doing it as a job?"

[hit_girl_mindy]

"Who would want a little girl on a motorcycle as a job?" Mindy scoffed. "I mean, a bear maybe, but me? Obviously other people can ride them. Now if I could get on my hands on my OWN though, that would be the shit."

"Maybe they would be wanting you to be racing so they could be betting." She wrinkled her nose, a bear on a motorcycle would be stupid.

She grinned, "Sandy will be having her own, because she did be coming second in her race. But I do no be thinking she will be letting you ride it." Seeing as Sandy still wanted to crush Mindy's eyes.

It wouldn't surprise her, but she also hadn't thought of the idea either. And if it could earn her enough cash for her own motorcycle, all the better right?

"How would Sandy get her own?" Oh, she wouldn't accept a ride on a motorcycle. It had to be the other way around, with anyone.

"She did be winning it." Pruna told her, "At the races, she did be coming second. It did be being cool."

[hit_girl_mindy]

"WHAT?! She got to keep it?! What the fuck, I was second in MY race too and that one was harder! Great, now 'm going to have to whore my image out just to get the damn motorcycle myself!"

[knifewithnoname]

"Well I bet you did be getting a prize too." Pruna stuck her tongue out. "And you do be being a victor, I do be betting you could be getting a motorcycle if you did be trying hard enough."

[hit_girl_mindy]

"Yeah, I got a prize," Mindy grumbled. "This 'special' one of a kind make up for this crowning is it, along with this robe that's pretty much indestructible. I would appear to this stupid crowning NAKED if it meant I would get my own bike, though."

"An indestructible robe do be being cool though, did you be testing it?" She reached out to grab a cake off the table and bit into it.

"Being naked would be being cold, you should be thinking of a better plan."

"Kinda figuring out when I would need a robe to be indestructible in the first place. I like it enough though. Hell, I earned it."

She laughed. "It was just an expression. I just mean I'd do a lot to get my hands on a bike."

"Do it be protecting you?" She asked, because that would be one pretty cool use for an indestructible robe.

She grinned, "Well be thinking of something and you will be getting one."

[hit_girl_mindy]

"Never used it yet," Mindy admitted. "Outside of walking around the tower anyway. Usually don't need to."

She sighed. "Man, it'd be so much easier to get around. I could even take someone for a ride and everything."

Pruna grinned and took another mouthful of her drink. "Wishing do no be planning." She pointed out.

"Yeah, good point." Mindy took another quick drink. "Guess I can whore myself out a little, if it'll get me a bike."

She paused. "So you're used to drinking this kind of stuff?"

Pruna wrinkled her nose at that, "I do no be knowing if you do be needing to be being that." But yet it was a plan. Mindy was just a kid though, and Sandy said it was gross for kids to have sex with anyone.

"No. It do be tasting really different then what we do be having in Gauig."

[hit_girl_mindy]

Mindy glowered. "I meant that as in, doing commercials, making appearances! Fuck, no way I'm going that far from a bike! I haven't even had a first kiss yet!"

Mindy shivered with revulsion. "Ugh. So what's it taste like in...Ga-ew-ig?"

"Well you do be being stupid slow. I have been kissing and I do be being younger than you."

Pruna grinned, "Honey. Everything do be tasting of honey in Gauig."

[hit_girl_mindy]

"You're the one that has a girlfriend, of course your faster than me there. Where do you figure I have time to make goo goo eyes and shit when I'm breaking people's necks and avoiding gunfire in my world?"

Now that she won the arena, who knew?

"Honey. Hmm. I guess that's ok. You a big honey person?"

"I do no be making goo goo eyes." She told her sticking out her tongue. "That do be being stupid."

She nodded with a smile, "I do be liking sweet food, it do be being the best. Honey cakes do be being my favourite."

"I was talking about me," Mindy said, looking amused. "I can't even imagine you making goo goo eyes at anyone. You're more likely to that with food."

Speaking of...

"I don't mind some sweet stuff myself. The Capitol actually do have halfway decent pastry shops, I hear."
