( open ) off to the races

Who| OPEN.
What| The First Annual Panem Motorcycle Races and Festival kick off.
Where| The Capitol.
When| Friday - Sunday.
Warnings/Notes| For more information, check out the original post, or see the results and winnings post.

Starting Friday, the Capitol has pushed out onto the chill streets with hopes for entertainment and the thrill of races most of them have no personal stakes in. The races are spread out over the first few days, with whispers of a surprise happening on Sunday. Everyone's theorizing what it could be. It's the nature of crowds to indulge in curiosity on a massive, gossipy level, and the Citizens of the Capitol are no exception.

Aside from the races, people stopped by the ice skating rink sponsored by one of the museums from the last Arena, with a Mindy themed focus. There are ride-alongs: Capitolites make a donation to the Gamemaker's Foundation (or something, idk) in order to get a chance to ride along on a short loop track with a racer. They can make this donation and then dictate anyone be the tag-along, from themselves, to their children, to another Tribute/Mentor. Why? Because Shippers.

Set indoors, there's Bumpercycle Jousting. Minimal injury, maximum ridiculous.

And back on the street, there's festival foods, with businesses opening doors and inviting chilled citizens in to enjoy special foods and drink and merchandise suited to the season and post-Games festivities.

Each night finishes with a round of fireworks in the sky.

Pruna grinned and didn't slow, she went faster this time, focusing just on that. It was a bit like climbing, and running on roofs. You had to just not think about how you could get hurt or try and prevent it, you just had to run, or climb or skate or kill.

It wasn't quite the emptiness, because you still felt, you just didn't let yourself think too much. She flew round the ring again, as fast as she could.
revvinguptheharley: (Harley: Touchdown!)

"Great! That's it! Now we're just gonna try a jump. No twisting yet. Bend your knees and launch!" Harley was so excited she even jumped herself though since she wasn't moving she didn't go very far.
knifewithnoname: (oh I see)

[personal profile] knifewithnoname 2014-04-09 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Okay!" Pruna did another lap to build up speed and then bent her knees and jumped up into the air.

It was amazing, it really did feel like flying. Of course what goes up must go down and Pruna's skates hit the floor again, one leg going one way, one the other. She windmilled her arms like crazy, trying to swerve like Harley had showed her and went crashing into a crowd of people.
revvinguptheharley: (Harley: I love to laugh)

[personal profile] revvinguptheharley 2014-04-09 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Harley cackled all the same watching Pruna take out another crowd of people.

This girl was dangerous even when she wasn't trying to be. An idle thought crossed her mind.

Hope I don't have to face this little devil in the arena.
knifewithnoname: (But I don't want that)

[personal profile] knifewithnoname 2014-04-10 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
Pruna glared at her from where she was crashed. Everywhere hurt and she felt the familiar warmth of blood trickling down her leg.

"You do be being a rubbish teacher."
revvinguptheharley: (Harley: Duh)

[personal profile] revvinguptheharley 2014-04-10 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Harley pulled an offended and hurt expression.

"What? Come on! I taught you how to go fast didn't I? And look how much more confidently you're moving! What did you really expect to master all of skating in a single day?" She huffed and put her hands on her hips.

"Don't go blaming the teacher for your weaknesses. I expected better of someone so skilled in the art of murder."
knifewithnoname: (you're joking)

[personal profile] knifewithnoname 2014-04-14 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Pruna pulled a face, sulking. She guessed Harley was right, she couldn't really learn everything in one day.

"Okay, you did be teaching good." She didn't sound happy still, "I do just be needing to be practicing more."
revvinguptheharley: (Harley: Thumbs up!)

[personal profile] revvinguptheharley 2014-04-14 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Harley smiled brightly again.

"That's the spirit. You can do anything you set your mind to with enough practice. Just don't get all grumpy about it." She offered a hand.

"Besides, wasn't it kind of fun watching those rubes squeal before you crashed into em?"
knifewithnoname: (thinking)

[personal profile] knifewithnoname 2014-04-28 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Pruna took the hand and found her feet again. She looked a bit embarrassed about losing her temper, she knew she should work harder on keeping it under control.

"What do a rube be being?" She asked, to distract herself from her annoyance.
revvinguptheharley: (Harleen: smug)

[personal profile] revvinguptheharley 2014-04-28 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Rubes, chumps, fools." She explained in a cheerful sing song tone.

"People too dumb to get out of the way when they see you coming at them."
knifewithnoname: (smiles)

"Stupid people." Pruna nodded and grinned. "They did be being really silly, did no one ever be teaching them to be getting out of the way?"

revvinguptheharley: (Harley: More sugar!)

Annnd wrapping it up.

"Sure looks that way." She gave Pruna a reassuring pat on the shoulder.

"Come on brat, I'll buy you some hot chocolate before you get back out here to practice more."
