Every floor public space is dripping with holiday decorations.

The decorations are themed, ridiculously so. Every surface is covered, and a table sits proudly full of holiday treats and spirits, kept stocked constantly by the avoxes. Cheerful music plays softly throughout the whole building, though luckily for everyone the Capitol doesn't really know what Christmas carols are.

Those with secret santa's have a cheery, passive-aggressive note reminding them not to disappoint anyone and ruin their holiday.

Those that have expressed a want for some object from home will find a box on their bed sometime during the day, with a merry holiday greeting from Cruentus. Inside they will find the object of their desire, or something similar, crafted from their words.

In blown glass. Pretty, decorative, utterly useless.

Bert's guns, Punchy's goggles, Sigma's music box, Maximus' leg, Mindy's knife, Terezi's dragon cane...on and on, as many gifts as Creuntus could find out. Those that were with them when they were pulled are more perfect replicas, those that they have just described obviously have an artistic touch to them.

Unwrapping presents was still new, and Pruna wasn't sure if there was a specific way to do it, but Sandy hadn't corrected her so far. So it took a while for her to open the box and she grinned picking up the socks. "They do be being cool." She grabbed two, not the same colour, and began the attempt at pulling them onto her feet.

Sandy's smile could have lit up the room as Pruna accepted the gifts happily. It was better then Sandy had even hoped for.

"They aren't waterproof so try not to get them wet...or then your feet will just get cold faster. But the servants here will keep them clean for you so you'll always have them ready." She watched with delight as Pruna's toes found the individual pockets meant for them. The socks were just the right size.

"They do be being great." She grabbed another two, they were a little tougher to put on, she was going to struggle to get all of them on, but Sandy had got them for her so she would find a way!

Sandy laughed in delight.

"Here let me help." She offered and scooted closer so that she could help roll the socks up from Pruna's toes to her knees.

"The more of these you wear the less you'll probably feel, but the warmer your feet will be."

Pruna wriggled her toes experimentally. "They do be being really warm!" She grinned, "Do I no be needing to be wearing all of them?"

"Naw." Sandy poked at Pruna's now warm and cozy feet. "Just as many as you want. If you wear too many you might not be able to feel anything but socks." She snickered "Or wiggle your toes." she added.

"You can save some for tomorrow, the Avox's will keep them washed and clean for you so they don't get smelly." At least Sandy figured that's who did the laundry.

"Oh." She nodded and left it at two, wriggling her toes again in experimentation.

"I will be saving the rest." She grinned, "Do this be when I do be giving you your present?"

She wasn't sure how this worked still, but there didn't seem to be too many rules.

"You got me a present?" Sandy sounded shocked, after all Pruna was still learning about Christmas. Sandy hadn't expected a gift...but since they were here already.

"Sure! I'd love it!" And suddenly she was filled with a pure sense of delight and hope that she hadn't had in so long.

She was getting a Christmas gift! From her best friend!

She had a best friend on Christmas!

"Of course I did be. It do no be being in shiny paper though, the sticky stuff do be being stupid." Pruna had had a fight with sellotape, and then given up, Sandy would just be taking the paper off again, so she saw no point in putting it on.

She held her fist out and dropped something into Sandy's hand, it was a ribbon and attatched to it was a dinosaur tooth. "It do no be being real apparantly," She had tried to get a real one, apparantly no where sold them.

"In my world if you do be being a great monster hunter then you can be keeping a tooth or a claw to be showing how brave you do be being, and you did be killing the tooth, claw monster so even though it do no be being from that monster... it do be being almost the same."

She handed her second present over, a piece of paper rolled up, unrolling it would reveal a cartoonish drawing of a bear fierce and stomping holding a heart in one paw, a human heart dripping with blood. The artist she had commissioned it off hadn't asked too many questions for her own sanity, Pruna was known to be strange and blood thirsty.

The tooth in her hand felt suddenly very heavy. Like it was of great importance and value despite not being real.

She had really done that hadn't she? It wasn't like the dream world where it had all been from her head. She really had killed that monster and saved them.

Her fingers curled around the tooth squeezing it into her palm with a wild eyed grin.

The second gift was...baffling. Deep down the artist in Sandy appreciated the effort it clearly took. But she had no idea what it meant.

"Wow!" Was the first thing she could say "Did you um...draw this?" She doubted it but she needed to stall with a smile while she tried to figure out what Pruna's intentions were behind the picture.

"No." She blushed, "I did be trying to but the stupid pens did no be doing what I did be wanting. So I did be commissioning it."

She stared intently at Sandy, feeling embarrassed, because Sandy didn't get it and Pruna was going to kill Kevin if he had told her something wrong.

"Maybe they do no be having it in your world either, it did be seeming weird, but Kevin did be telling me that if you did be loving someone you should be giving them a bear and they should be holding a heart and they did be doing it here, but I did be asking at the place where you can be looking at the animals in the cages and they would no be giving me a bear. They would no even be letting me be borrowing one!" She frowned.

"And I did be thinking Effie would be being mad if I did be getting a real heart, so I did be getting you a drawing, sorry if it do be being stupid."

Pruna has offically won at Christmas

As Pruna explained it Sandy felt her face getting redder, and her eyes wider as the logic that was her crazy assassin girlfriend began to make itself clear.

She laughed, such a rare sound that Pruna may very well be the only person who had gotten genuine laughter out of her since her arrival. There was no hesitation, nor anymore words as she wrapped her arms around Pruna drawing her into a tight hug and kissed her solidly on the lips the way people in love were supposed to.

In the back of her head she couldn't help but notice, it felt even better then cheek kisses.

At first Pruna frowned when Sandy laughed, thinking she was laughing at her, but then she was hugged and Sandy's lips pressed against hers. Pruna blinked, blushing slightly but didn't pull away.

Once the kiss was broken she grinned at Sandy, full of feelings and not sure what they all were. But she was happy that Sandy had liked her presents and felt safe and warm and happy.

"You are officially the best girlfriend ever." she declared not for the first time.

"And these are the best gifts I've ever gotten." Which was true for more then a couple reasons. But having a low set bar didn't matter as much as how Pruna had come up with these items.

"You do be being the best girlfriend as well." Pruna told her happily wriggling her toes again in the socks. "I do be being glad you did be liking them, I did no never be buying presents for anyone before. It did be being harder than I did be thinking."

that earned her a chuckle out of Sandy. "You did great. It's hard sure but the longer you're with someone, the more you get to know em the easier it gets."

At least that makes sense to Sandy. It's not like she's done much more gift giving then Pruna.

Pruna nodded, "It do just be taking practice," like everything. She thought for a moment, "Do there be being any other times you do be giving presents?" Because she wasn't going to get good at it if she only did it once a year.

Sandy considered it for a moment.

"Well Valentines Day is like...a total holiday for boyfriends and girlfriends. It's a holiday to celebrate love." She could just imagine the face Pruna would make hearing that.

"Also birthdays. Mine's August first." Which led to her wondering if Pruna even knew when hers was. After all she hadn't known was her name was till recently.

"Kevin did be telling me about that. When he did be telling me about the bears and the hearts." She wrinkled her nose, "It do be sounding a bit stupid." Very stupid.

She wrinkled her nose, "You do no be giving presents on birthdays, that do just be being the day you do be being older."

"It's pretty stupid." Sandy agreed. "But maybe you and I can make it not stupid somehow."

As for the second part...she couldn't help but smile. When Pruna wrinkled her nose it was cute.

"People who like you give YOU gifts on your birthday. You don't have to give other people gifts. It's like a little holiday to celebrate you and why you are so awesome." She tried to clarify.

Pruna nodded, maybe they could go and see some real bears, since no one would let her buy one. That wouldn't be stupid.

"Oh." She thought about that, it seemed strange to her that someone would give her presents just because they liked her, being told to by magical men on poles sounded a lot more feasible. "No one did ever be giving me gifts before, and I did no be ever giving my sister a gift on our birthday even though I do be liking her a lot."

"Well, things were different back where you came from." Sandy reasoned not wanting Pruna to worry. "So maybe they didn't celebrate birthdays. That doesn't mean you can't celebrate them here if you want to. And if you don't no one's gonna force you to." It's not like Sandy had celebrated that many birthdays herself.

"Maybe." She nodded and thought about it, "I think it could be being cool. But August was ages ago before it did be getting cold and I did no be knowing it did be being your birthday then."

"No problem, if I-" she caught herself and corrected her words knowing Pruna wouldn't accept an "if."

"When I survive to see my next Birthday we'll really have something to celebrate. I'll have been here for over a year...met my best friend and girlfriend...and yay still alive!"

"Yes, we can be having a big celebration!" She nodded, "With ice cream." She liked the idea of that and made a note to remember that date. The fourth day of August, she would ask Kevin what people usually did to celebrate birthdays, he hadn't failed her yet.
