Really, Kankri found the entire concept of this place absolutely deplorable. He would have no part of it. But until he could find some way to escape his captors, it wouldn't hurt to familiarize himself with the layout of the place. And also to find something to eat, he was quite famished at the moment.

He started in the suite of the district he'd been assigned and herded to like cattle, of course, but soon enough he was meandering all through the building, taking note of its occupants and features with various degrees of disapproval. He wasn't entirely sure of how to approach anyone yet, but he supposed it wouldn't hurt to try for the sake of information.

".............WAIT A MI-"

Jack's moment of eureka was interrupted by a strange-sounding squeak. followed by wracking coughs and gasping. Again, he had started to strain his voice, and he was paying for it.

And - he realized - that there was more than two now. This wasn't the biter, or the crazy rebel, but that wasn't much comfort, either way, since Jack had already decided to assign him the unwanted snoop designation.

Kankri stared as the man hacked and coughed and tried to breathe. "Are you ill?" he asked. "You sound as if you should be resting and drinking fluids, not running around insulting people and assuming the worst of them."

It took several moments for Jack to get his bearings back, after which he gave Kankri a glare.

" 'm fine," he grumbled, annoyed. "Just my throat."

"Well, then your throat needs rest," Kankri insists, giving him an unimpressed look right back. "Since you'd only strain it further if we continued this conversation, I suppose I should excuse myself."

"...Yes," Jack mumbled. "That would probably be best."

"Very well." Kankri nodded, scooting off towards the door. "My name is Kankri," he added after a moment, pausing at the door out of the suite. "You are?"

"...Atlas." The response is after a long silence. "Jack Atlas, District 8 Mentor."
