[open] CATCH ALL
Who| ALL Y'ALL it's a ho down
What| A catch-all reaction log for the plot developments. Saves you from making 5 logs each tbh.
Where| All around the place
When| During and post lock down, 3am~ sunday onward
WARNINGS| Panicking, talk of murder and violence. Singing the songs of panem.
When things like THIS and THIS are going down it's probably a good time to touch base with one another. Face caressing, crying and meaningful stares abound as the Tributes and Staff drag their knuckles hopelessly in an effort to figure out what the fresh hell is going on.
Make your own prompts, feel free to make them closed to specific people.

Stephen hits a few more buttons, then passes her the tablet.
"Here. Mess around with it a little. I can tell you about this all I want, but you'll need practice to get proficient."
no subject
"Huh. It might be easier than I thought." She grins a bit, a little impressed at learning something new, turning the appreciative smile over to Stephen. "You've ... really been helpful. I'll admit, I hadn't really expected that."
She came in here, reluctant to trust strangers, but most of them really surprised her in just a couple of days. Even the ones she hadn't expected to be on her side. "I'd try to show you something to make up for it, but," she shrugs with a light laugh. "There isn't much, unless you want to learn a few tricks with the axe. I can show you the ways of the shield maiden."
She's kidding, of course. Maybe half-kidding.

When she brings up training, though, he blinks and tilts his head. "...you know," he says, "everyone I know keeps telling me to learn things like that. I don't really see why, but if training with you gets me arms like that--" here, he gently taps Astrid's bicep with a fist, "--it just might be worth it."
Stephen doesn't want to train, of course. It sounds like a lot of hard work, and it's also scary to admit that he might need to know how to fight at some point. But he knows he should. He also knows he should make it look like he's not serious about it.

"You don't have to, of course. It's kind of integrated into Viking blood practically to know how to fight. But you never know when you might need it, so if you're ever interested, the offer does stand."

"...but only after things calm down, okay?"

Astrid sighs a bit at the idea, hoping that things did somehow get better. She still had no idea what she'd do to help Hiccup, but she knew she had to somehow. Even if she did agree to keep settled down for the night, she knows she probably won't be able to sit still tomorrow.
She tries to laugh though. Hiccup's taught her how to when things got rough. "But I promise, you'll be the fearsome, muscle man escort when I'm done with you. No one will dare mess with you."

He likes Astrid, he realizes: Stephen hasn't known her for very long, but he genuinely cares about her. He also realizes that she likes him: she is putting on none of this, none of it is fake, none of it is fear or flattery. He supposes it only goes to show what friendships you can make when you treat people like people.
"You have a long way to go."
no subject
"Oh, please, you have no idea what Hiccup was like a few years ago. Incredibly scrawny, chicken legs that could knock him right over with a flick of a finger. Now, he's ... well, still scrawny, but I've gotten him to be able to pump up those arms a bit." A bit, anyway.
"You're already halfway past what he was, so don't underestimate what Viking power will be able to do for you."
no subject
"I'll leave you to fiddle with the tablet. If you need help, flag me down, okay? I'm going to go check on the others."
no subject
"Thanks, I'll try not to break it." It shouldn't be too much of a problem, already having learned a bit on how to handle it. She hadn't snapped the thin, fragile device in half or anything at least, so everything from there should be okay.
She takes a moment before she finally speaks up, a sincerity floating through her tone. "Thank you."
It could be said for the tablet, but it's easy to see that it was for much more beyond that, a reckless, urgent nature only being eased down with the help of his words.

His smile turns sad, and when he stands, he rests a hand on her shoulder for a moment. Just a moment, just a light touch, and he's not sure if it's for her or for him, but it is a you're welcome.
Then he turns and walks off.
