Heroes, queens and survivors, oh my! [Partially-open]
Who| Clementine, Steve Rogers, Dave Strider, Elsa to start and then open to all members of district 9.
What| Clem goes to see Steve and a case of slumber party breaks out in the District 9 suite
Where| District 9 suite
When| Pre-D3 bombing announcement
Warnings/Notes| Hold onto your butts, things are gonna get cute.
[Clementine finds out that Steve is out of the arena pretty soon after she comes down off the roof, her head feeling a lot clearer for the fresh air. The screens are doing highlights of deaths so far and she see's... well, there's no need to linger on the details.
It's easy to go up to District 9 past 6 and knock on the door. Far more appealing than going back to her own empty room. She wants to check on her friends and be amongst company rather than alone with her thoughts. It's not just Steve she knows here either, there's Dave who's also out of the arena by now.]
[[ooc: Make your own threads or join others, everyone after the initial group of four will come in to find a gigantic pillow fort in the works and they are free to add to its construction. Any cute slumber party activities (movies, popcorn, truth or dare etc.) are game!Flower crowns are approved for everybody. Have fun!]]

LET'S START THE PARTY
The knock catches his attention, looking around thinking someone was going to show up, expecting the company, but after a couple seconds with no immediate response, Steve is on his feet and answering the door.]
To what do I owe the pleasure, Ms. Clementine? [He steps aside to invite her in, giving her a smile, very pleased to see her.]
no subject
I, um, heard you were back too.
[Her hand self-conciously rubs her arm as she steps inside at Steve's invitation.]
How are you?
no subject
He leads her to the common, so she can be comfortable, sit if she likes.]
I'm okay, some trouble sleeping, but hanging in there. [Steve is a little more open than he usually is, but he figures she might need someone to relate to.]
And you? How are you doing?
no subject
Better than I thought I'd be. Doesn't feel real, somehow.
[She had the worst of it when she first woke up, she thinks.]
no subject
[Steve is offering it because he remembers how surreal it felt when this happened to him before. How it took him a few days to come to terms he wasn't having a bad dream, that the future was real.
Because of this previous experience, he knows just how real this is.]
no subject
[And she means that literally as well as figuratively. Even down to the soreness of the dog bite on her left arm.]
I guess it'll sink in eventually.
no subject
Don't rush it. You'll figure it out in your own time.
[He reaches over and tugs the brim of her hat down like he did the first time he met her.]
I thought for sure your stylist would try to steal this while we were gone.
no subject
[And then she blinks and smiles softly, pleased by his gentle action. Clementine flicks it back up with her finger.]
They must have known better after I threatened them the first time.
no subject
He doesn't laugh though, just looks amused.]
Had them shaking in their boots, huh? Next time you should threaten to put hair dye in their shampoo. God forbid if it's a natural hair color.
no subject
Would you help me do it if I did?
[Testing the waters, because that sounds like an awfully tempting plan to carry out someday.]
no subject
He remembers the pranks he and Bucky used to pull on each other, all pretty harmless and cheap. It's a good memory, he's glad to have it right now. Thoughts of Bucky usually bring up sad memories more often than not.]
Just say the word, kiddo.
no subject
[Something like that would probably help the itchy, restless feeling Clementine's got under skin her right now. The need to do something, however inconsequential it might be in the long run.]
Is this yours?
[She points at the sketchbook.]
no subject
Yeah, just some doodles. [It's over a quarter filled, but it's mostly people he sees around, landscapes, and random cartoons.]
You planning to stick around for a while? [He says it more like an invitation to stay.
If she does, he knows he'll need to offer more than talking and a sketchbook, that'd bore most kids after a while. What do kids do these days anyway? He remembers playing with boxes and making blanket forts. Well, there is a whole closet full of blankets...] We could make a blanket fort.
no subject
Wow! You can really draw, Steve. This looks just like them.
[The comment refers to the drawing of one of the other tributes. Clem looks up at his question and thinks about it for all of one second before accepting. She wasn't going to invite herself to stay but she's glad Steve did]
... I don't think I ever made one of those before. It sounds like fun. Is it hard?
no subject
And uh. That'd be how that one ended. [He nods at Elsa, sagging his shoulders as he tries to act casual.] Hi Clem, I see you brought more doritos. [He cocks his head toward Steve.] ..Since when were you in this district?
no subject
That sounds like it must have been painful for the other guy...
[She's confused when Dave suddenly stops, before she realizes that he's staring at a couple of other people.]
Oh, hello!
[She gives them a small wave, though she has no idea who they are. Dave seems to be familiar with them- or at least Clem.]
I'm Elsa, I don't think I've met either of you?
no subject
He's just about to answer her question when more people arrive, both familiar in ways that he might have seen their faces on TV or in passing, but nothing more. Sounds like one of them has quite the notion for stories.
He raises an eyebrow at the question, he saw the boy's reaction to either him or Clem - though his knowing her indicates it might be more about him. Still, the question without introduction is curious. Almost familiar.] Handful of weeks now. Worried you missed my arrival?
[But as he answers the young man's questions, he raises to his feet to greet the lady properly with a friendly smile.]
It's a pleasure as it can be, Ms. Elsa, I'm Steve Rogers and this is my friend- [He gestures to Clem, letting her introduce herself.]
no subject
What doritos?
[Yes she's entirely missed that reference, sorry. She's also unsure if he and Steve actually know each other before her attention is taken up with Elsa and she smiles politely at her, not getting up like Steve does but lifting a hand in greeting.]
I'm Clementine. You're the lady who made the ice castle, aren't you?
no subject
Guess I was busy, but I also go by Dave. [He says dryly, glancing up at Elsa as she introduces herself, nodding at Clem's question.] She's our resident Ice Queen. [He forces a stage whisper.] Don't get on her bad side.
no subject
It could be anything, she realizes.]
It's nice to meet you both, and-
[She gives Dave a tiny shove.]
Don't listen to him. I have no bad side. But yes, I did make it! [She smiles.] So what are you both up to?
no subject
His attention is on Elsa again, eyebrows going up a little when she confirms she was the one to make the ice castle he saw.]
That's impressive, Ms. Elsa, very nice of you too.
[He looks at Clem.] Well, I was just seeing if Clementine here wanted to stick around and make a blanket fort.
[Lifting his eyebrows and tilting his head towards the other's, Steve silently asks if she wants to invite them. It's up to her.]
no subject
[Clem smiles a little at their banter and acknowledges Steve's silent question, taking a moment to consider -- Dave is her friend too and Elsa seems nice -- before going ahead and making the invite with a question of her own.]
Yeah, I don't remember ever making one before. Do you two know how?
no subject
Please, fort building is like a rite of passage in the Strider home. [He glances up at Elsa.] How do you feel about constructing something that isn't along the lines of an igloo? You up to the call of duty?
no subject
Thank you, all of you...
[She decides to focus now on the prospect of a blanket fort. This time she does grin, because the idea is so adorably childish, it's been so long since she's done anything like that. Not since she was a little girl.]
Of course I'm up for it! That sounds like a wonderful idea. [A very good way to relax after a death arena, she thinks.] It may be a little out of my area of expertise, but I think I can manage it.
[She stares around the room, trying to figure out where best to begin.]
We're going to need plenty of pillows and blankets, of course, and the real trick is using the furniture to our advantage, but we're all creative people. We can do it!
no subject
Elsa's enthusiasm gets a smile out of him.]
The linen closet is full of blankets and sheets, we raid that and grab every pillow we can carry from our rooms and we should be set to start building. [If everyone agrees, he'll head off to his room to start the gathering of the pillows and raiding of the closet.]
