Children without them weren't entirely uncommon in Paris, he'd discovered with no small degree of indignation. Usually, they'd been abandoned at birth by their parents, or perhaps separated from them too young to remember their own names. At any rate, if that were the case with this girl, he certainly wasn't going purposefully remind her of it.
