Thane has little interest in the film he sees as he passes - he has seen enough killing in his time to look at it without feeling, and also to simply not need it for the sake of learning to kill. Perhaps to learn the people, but that he would do in private.

So for the moment his attention is merely on Howard as he comes to a halt, glances at the screen only briefly and then maintains his gaze on the boy.
