ka_sera_sera: (old general listening shadowed)

"And by my gut you mean instinct, don't you? The way I judge which man may be trustworthy, and which man may not?" Roland thinks about this. He trusts his instinct implicitly and always has, but he has lived enough to know that some people do not merely fail to listen to their own instincts, they do not have them. When it comes to people, judging them, some'll walk into any trap with a smile on their face, with just the right encouragement. It would be best for her, best by quite a lot, if she isn't one of those.

"That can't be explained, that 'gut feeling'. It helps to observe. Look at people's faces, the way they hold themselves. Observe their reasons, too. Someone looking out for a stranger just for the sake of it - that's rare. Rarer in some places than others." Some places, and this place, especially.

"But your rules, what are they? If you've no instinct about people, perhaps rules'll be some help."
