The answer is, of course, unsatisfactory. Dave was looking for a little more of a status report, just as Karkat might expect from him if he came back hopelessly injured and traumitised. He knows when he's not going to get it, though, so he just purses his lips in an all too Dave fashion and pulls away to flop back on the bed.

He has things to say, but for now he's going to silently pat the space beside him and wait for Karkat to fill it. Affection is pretty easy to dump on Karkat when he can play his indignant reactions off as pranking, but this is a more sincere offer for a friend who is going through some shit.
