Alain goes on staring at the picture of Roland a moment longer. "He survived, at least," he says quietly. "That's something to be hopeful over. And I thankee for it." Turning back to Emily, he gives her a faint smile and a little nod. He's silent for a moment, though, looking up at the screen again before he goes to sit down.

"When you say look after," he says at last, choosing his words carefully, "what does that mean?"
