Phil brings mostly sweet things, he's got his booze hound ways on pause for this meeting. Though he still doesn't understand why Julian is so surprised when he demonstrates some sort of kindness or signs of interest-free friendship.

"Yeah and I like seeing friends succeed where I failed," the guard took note of the discomfort and dropped the subject by answering Julian's own question. "I died twelve hours after experiencing w-what possibly was the happiest moment of my life." That moment with Venus would never disappear from his mind, a peace he never thought possible with another person. "I died by gunshot, not fast either. But in the end, we both did what we had to. All that happened and we're still here."

He saw Julian's harrowing experiences...and never once judged him for it. How could he judge anyone trying to survive?
