She takes his glasses away and puts them on the bedside table, and strokes his hair for another moment. "Okay," she says, and slips out of her shoes, walking away for just a moment to trade her dress for a short cotton robe, to further avoid making noise by crinkling her crinoline with every move. She climbs into bed next to him, slightly higher up on the pillow, and gently holds his head to her chest, nose buried in his hair, pressed to his crown.
