The thing is... Sam might not completely understand a lot of this stuff, he might not know what's crossing a line and what isn't, but if things were different, he might want to try. Well, no, he does want to try, of course. He's curious about all of it, and he damn well probably needs to know what's crossing a line and what isn't if he's going to try not to make things complicated.

But if things were different, he might want to try to other reasons.

It doesn't matter, though. Things aren't different, and that's the way it is. The best Sam can do is keep going the best he knows how, and hope he doesn't end up making things work.
