Swann is still coughing into her hand when he gives her the water, and she immediately takes it up to drink like a beached fish. Only when half the glass is gone does she put it down and take a gasp for air.

She leaves a lipstick ring on the edge of the glass.

"That hurts," she says, her voice thick, looking at him like she's a bit wounded he didn't warn her.
