[ he still has a hard time accepting that he's in another world entirely, but.. there's no denying that this isn't mount doom or any part of middle earth he's ever been in before. and aragorn--thorongil, he must remember to call him thorongil, even in his thoughts--seems certain. that's always been good enough for frodo before.

he's starting to regain a little of his strength, now. his uncle and thorongil have been urging him to eat a little more, and though he still has very little appetite, it's.. helping (and his uncle could stand to listen to his own advice). he hates that his condition is a concern for someone like thorongil, who has so many more important things to consider and to do. and though he's very grateful, as always, for his friendship and his protection, frodo has begun to long for the outside. he needs.. he needs to see the outside again. the sun, stars. trees. running water. and though he knows that this place is very different from home, he needs to see it.

any distraction, he hopes, will help. perhaps if he's exploring this city, he can drown out the ring's call and influence. (it's out there, he knows, he feels it.)

he'd dressed this morning in clothing as close to what he's accustomed to as possible (feet bare as usual), and had left with separate notes for his uncle and thorongil if they came looking for him. --outside, it had been a little frightening, a little overwhelming at first, and he still tires easily.. but at least there are benches to rest on when he wearies of trying not to be stepped on by curious big folk.

at any point throughout the day, then, one might find a small hobbit perched on a bench watching pedestrian traffic, or up on his toes to look into shop windows, or struggling to make his way through a city full of people twice his size. ]
