It very well could which is why Clementine is taking it so seriously. She wants to be prepared for anything, she wants to be strong and able to hold her own, to fight for herself and the people she cares about. She doesn't want to be a liability in an arena because she's a kid and people think kids are helpless, even if that kind of thinking could potentially work in her favour.
