The phrase letting of steam means something far different to Iskierka than it likely does to Stephanie, but she doesn't ask about it. There's not any need to in her mind, and she understands what she thinks is the right context. (It's probably not, given that she's thinking mostly of herself and has never heard it in an emotional context.)

"I suppose it would be easier," she admits after moment. "But it hardly seems interesting all the same."

It's like drills, she figures. Not at all interesting, for all that everyone had seemed to think they were good idea, back when she was younger. And she supposes they'd been useful besides, if she must give them something.
