Part of him is grateful that he ain’t got the fear to him. He doesn’t want Kevin’s pleas ringing in his ears now or ever. But that part brings guilt with it. This is on his motherfucking head. If he’d taken the chip out when he had the chance, Kevin wouldn’t have had to fight so damn hard.

But damn does it make the chipper tone from Kevin cause him all the more unhappiness. He’s never, not ever in his whole goddamn life, seen ill of mirth. Mirth was of the holy and should be held at any and all opportunities. But seeing it all artificial-like on Kevin just... hurts.
