There's an idle thought in his mind that she looks to be someone that Hiccup and Ruffnut might know, but with little evidence to back up that idea he dismisses it for the moment and focuses on being steadfast in his approach. Not everyone arrives with the same intentions, nor with the same understanding of both war and modern Midgardian technology. It can be hellishly confusing, so he can't help but feel sympathy and he can't resist offering assistance.
