The strong, unmistakable Texan drawl probably tells her about as much as the food, anyway. Not that Joel is keeping any secrets - he's just not fond of talking about himself or where he comes from.

Very little of his history, or that of his world, is happy.

"Here in the city, we're celebrities. We get whatever we want. Long as we don't rock the boat too much, anyway. You step outside, folks'll mob you, lookin' for autographs, pictures, interviews. Like I said - nothin' we do here is private."

Joel hardly looks the part of celebrity, that's for sure - jeans and a button-down shirt, sleeves rolled up for cooking to reveal his burly workers' arms, big broad, calloused hands, the weary lines on his face. It all speaks to a hard life, totally different from the cushy surroundings.
