Here, I am a shitty fake girlfriend, have a tribble
Who| Katniss and Peeta
What| She has been organizing her thoughts, and thinks she's ready to get them out. Maybe. Possibly. Also, tribble.
Where| Peeta's room.
When| Late afternoon, after getting her order from Pasha.
Warnings/Notes| None atm.
It felt a little invasive to let herself into his room, but she had a feeling she cared about that far more than Peeta did. And she wasn't sure she should leave this thing alone.
She wasn't really a pet owner.
Really, deep down though, she knew this wasn't just to give Peeta a gift, even if it was well deserved. So she sat carefully on the bed, legs crossed, petting the orange ball of fur sitting in her lap. It was making happy little sounds, and she could see how they had caught on. It was rather soothing.
Which she really needed right now.

He wasn't gone that long, though, coming back to the suites just in time to have Katniss sit there for only ten minutes or so. Who he wasn't expecting to be in his room, but then he didn't care that much. Especially when it was her.
"Hey." Peeta said in surprise, the door sliding shut behind him. "What are you doing here?" He took his coat off, throwing it to a chair and coming to stand in front of her with a grin.
"What is that?"

She paused, realizing that, past their names, tribbles, she didn't really know what they were. Animals of some sort.
"A tribble." Looking up, she shrugged, suddenly feeling unsure all over again.
"It's for you." She added, holding it out. The furry thing settled in her out stretched hands, cooing softly. The little vibrations were relaxing.

"So do I get to name it, or did you already pick out a name?" And why did you get me it? That question could wait a little bit.

She gave him a lop sided smile, and a nervous little shrug, shifting so he could sit next to her, so they were facing each other.
Hesitantly, she reached out to stroke it's head, focusing on it, and it's relaxation, instead of on the subject t hand.

"I always wanted one, but you can't really have a cat or a dog wandering near the ovens." And they eat rabbit. And fish. And squirrel. It was really cute, this tribble, and Peeta grins at her.
"So, Buttercup is a no-go for a name?"

It was true that she was growing more fond of the cat in a way that entailed mutual hatred of each other. Though he hadn't really crossed her mind much since coming to the Capitol. Now Prim was back home, though, she felt comfort knowing Buttercup was there.
It was after that thought process that she realized what, exactly, he meant and flushed slightly. With the other thoughts distracting her, she wasn't focused right.
"You can name him...it buttercup if you want, though. I just have more faith in your creativity."
