What's a young princess to do?

WHO| Chibi-Usa and anyone that comes across her
WHAT| Our pink-haired girl is coming to terms with everything
WHEN| 01- August
WHERE| D7’s floor, the Training Centre, and the Shopping districts
WARNINGS| None

District Seven’s Level

After being told she had been brought here to fight to the death for ‘glorious Panem’, given her communicator and credit card, in a daze Chibi-Usa allowed herself to be directed back to her districts floor and to her room. Once there she slept for the rest of the day willing herself not to cry through most of it.

The next morning she wakes with a start, at first thinking it had all a bad dream, rubbing at her eyes her first thought was to tell her Mama. After all she had just gotten home from staying with Usagi. As she starts to climb out of her bed she thinks maybe that dream meant Usagi needed her again?

It’s then she wakes up properly and looks around the room realising that she really had been kidnapped to another world.

What if she wasn't the only one they brought here?

“Usagi!?” she shouts as she comes running out of the room.

Training Centre

After talking to the people on her floor, Chibi-Usa comes to the training floor to look at it. She really doesn’t like what she sees, just so many weapons and people using them on each other. At least it didn’t look like they were trying to kill each other right now.

To say she was looking wide-eyed and befuddled would be an understatement, after wandering around she sits down on a bench, bringing her legs to her knees and sighing deeply.

“How am I supposed to help everyone here?” She hugs her legs tighter. “Puu, I really wish you were here right now. I even miss Usagi.”

Shopping Districts

Trying to get everything out of her mind, Chibi-Usa takes some time wandering the shopping district looking at a great many things but not actually trying to buy anything. There were so many crazy outfits, and strange things to have she was actually feeling a little overwhelmed at it all.

Where are all the normal clothes?

She soon finds herself standing in front of a window with a dress in the window that looks more like some crazy kind of mix of a pink marshmallow and a rice ball that was covered in glitter. She’s spending a lot of time wondering if it’s something to wear or some joke costume that could be edible.

Susannah's been at the archery range, firing arrow after arrow at targets she's been imagining are President Snow. She hasn't quite beat the record listed on the wall--that one still belongs to Katniss--but she's closing in on it, which makes her happy.

She notices the little pink-haired girl as she's hanging her bow on the rack and kneels down to talk to her. "How did you get down here?" she asks. "This part's supposed to be off-limits to citizens."

Because a little girl with pink hair has to be from the Capitol, right? She's younger than any of the other child tributes, even Clementine or Pruna.

(You might notice, Chibi Usa, that the lady kneeling down to talk to you has prosthetic legs from the knee down. Pretty ones with flowers, but they are definitely prosthetics.)

Oh, Susannah would tell her about it if she asked. But right now she's too busy frowning. "But you're-- you can't be older than eight years old!" Even the old games wouldn't reap children under the age of eleven and she's fairly certain that none of the other child tributes had been younger than that age. And... while she hadn't been exactly okay with that, she'd accepted that as a fact of life in Panem.

(After all, Jake had been eleven and he'd been as much a part of their ka-tet as any of them.)

But this? Eight years old and in a murder game was not okay at all.

She takes a deep breath and tries to smile reassuringly at the little girl, although she doesn't feel like the smile comes out right. "I'm sorry they brought you here. I'm a tribute too. My name is Susannah."

The only difference that makes to Susannah is that it's even worse.

"Chibi-Usa," Susannah repeats. "Thank you. I think everyone's sorry about it, except for the Gamemakers and the people watching us. I know everything here is probably very confusing and I can't promise it'll get better, but if we meet again in the arena, I'll do what I can to keep you safe, okay?"

Even if she's just met her. She's a small child.

Oh Lord, she's so earnest it's heart-breaking. "Thank you, Chibi-Usa," she says. "I'm sure you'll do just fine." She doesn't just want to give the little girl platitudes, though. She wants to help her somehow. "Hey. Did you know that there's stations down here where you don't fight with weapons but learn things like how to tie knots or create fires? Do you want me to show you where they are?"

Susannah smiles back, standing back up and holding her hand out to Chibi-Usa. "Sure. Which would you like? Knots, fire-starting, or camouflage?"

"Good idea," Susannah says, as she leads Chibi-Usa to the fire station. "Fire's really useful. It'll keep you warm, you can use it to cook food, and worst comes to worst it can be a kind of weapon."

"That's good!" Susannah says encouragingly. "Maybe the next arena we're in will have fish so you can grill 'em." There's a stool nearby the fire station. Susannah pulls it over so Chibi Usa can climb on it to get a better look at the fire.

"Now there's a couple ways to make fire," she says, "but usually you can only get matches or a lighter if they send 'em to you in a parachute and those are pretty straightforward anyway. So the station is for learning how to use a flint or how to rub sticks together."
