( open ) Arrival

Who| Fíli and anyone!
What| Fíli arrives, and he is still quite lost despite whatever information has been given to him.
Where| Anywhere around the Training Center (also District 6 Suites), let me know in the subject line!
When| Now & during the next couple of days (ICly)
Warnings/Notes| None that I can think of.

FOR KÍLI;

Things happen entirely outside of him, beyond himself. Fíli feels as though he is nowhere at all, words spoken that he does not hear, things placed on his hands that he cannot touch. He demands then he asks, he all but begs, where his brother is, where Lake-town is, but the people around him only seem to answer questions that he is not making. Vague mentions of some games and a battle to the death hover at the back of his mind, but by the time he thinks to ask about those, he finds himself being taken to someplace else.

He does not stay for one second once he is left at the apartment, and makes off to find a way back, or at least someone he knows. He walks and runs, for however long he does not know, screaming and shouting for Kíli, for Bofur or Óin, but there is no one, he recognizes no one or nothing in this place.

It is a fear that coils at the pit of his stomach, settling heavier with each step he takes. How did he find himself here, and why? How is he to return? Panic surrounds him until it is too great for him to keep going and he all but collapses against a wall, sliding down until he is sitting on the ground, legs folded, head resting against his knees.

He can't breathe, and he realizes now that he is also lost.

FOR ANYONE;

All of this may be explained a thousand times over, still Fíli remains just as lost. He has found his brother, but that is as much familiarity as this place brings. He walks the halls and the rooms, everything strange and entirely foreign, and therefore all too intimidating to him, but he does not show it. He makes his best effort to keep his step sure as he peeks into each corner, watches each person that passes him attentively, and opens every door that he does not find locked - including doors to other people's rooms, but it is not as if he knows that.

One of the doors he opens is to Karkat's block in the D1 suites. Karkat, at the moment, is lying on the floor, drawing a chart on a piece of paper in the troll script. "Can't you fucking knock?" he asks irritably, raising his head to see who just barged in.

He blinks. "Shit," he says. "I didn't know they made grown humans smaller than Kili."

goody

"Well duh, I'm not," the strange creature replies. He points to the nubby orange horns poking out of his mess of black hair. "I'm a troll. We're way better. If you're not a human, what the hell are you, because you totally look like a really short, rectangular human with extra face hair."

Karkat feels like this is a good point. Most of the non-humans in the Tribute Tower looked like they weren't. Even that new guy in Signless' district had weird face shit to distinguish him.

Karkat's eyes narrow. "Look," he says, "I know I'm not the tallest of trolls and my horns are not the sharpest--" This is an understatement. "--but you have no fucking business saying I don't look like a troll. And no, I've never heard of dwarfs. They are not on the list of species we've conquered and nobody told me that Kili wasn't a really short human."

"Yeah, well, we do have a troll like that, here," Karkat says. "He's called the Initiate. Except for the turning into stone part. The sun where we come from is fucking dangerous, but not because it turns you into stone. It's just so fucking bright that it can burn your eyeballs." He frowns. "Do they live under bridges or some stupid shit like that? Because people always seem to confuse us with some other kind of troll that may or may not exist."

"The only troll I know who lives in a cave is Nepeta and she's shithive maggots," Karkat says. "I mean, she's my friend and all but she also thinks she's a purrbeast. And my kind of troll is normal. Your kind is the kind that's strange."

"And you look like a troll, only really short and pink and yellow and hornless, with face hair," Karkat retorts. "It's not my fault that you dwarf guys look like us." (It might be his fault that humans do, but this guy keeps saying he's not one so whatever.)

[personal profile] sleeplessinalternia 2014-04-07 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Well yeah. Duh." He shrugs. "So if dwarfs aren't humans, why do they look so much like them? I mean, way closer than humans do to trolls?"

Karkat nods. Humans were pretty short-lived as these things went. They probably had a longer lifespan than him, of course but as far as he could tell they had about the same span as a brown or maybe a yellow if they were lucky.

"Our skins are thicker too. Humans are way fucking fragile, it's kinda pathetic. And they have shit for natural weapons." No claws, fangs, or horns.

Karkat shrugs. "Yeah, I guess. So are you and Kili from the Dwarf Planet or something?"

It seems the obvious guess to him.

"It's..." Shit, how could these guys not know what a planet is? "Okay, so you know what the ground is, right? Well, the thing about the ground is that even though it looks like it's flat it's really a humongous round ball of ground, with water and air attached to it. And that ball is hanging around in space--in the sky--and that's a planet. Almost everybody lives on one."

Karkat's actually glad he learned all those scientific facts to shove in Gamzee's face when he started babbling about miracles, because that lets him say, "There's this shit called gravity? It's about hugely big things pulling teeny tiny things to them. Well, a planet is fuckmongously giant. So the gravity stuff makes the air and water and rocks and trees and people stick to it."

[personal profile] sleeplessinalternia 2014-05-30 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
"It just kind of hangs around in space," Karkat says, frowning, because he's just realizing the hopeless enormousness of trying to explain this shit to someone whose species probably doesn't even have chainsaws, much less space travel.
