The Crowning of Mindy McReady

Who| Everyone who's anyone.
What| The Crowning.
Where| A warehouse on the edge of town.
When| Starting from early evening till late into the night.
Warnings/Notes| Be sure to check the linked thread for plot purposes, even if you don't tag into it.

The party is brightly colored.

The theme, subtly, is super heroes. Boldly paints city scapes are splattered across the walls, and hallways are made to look like dingy, potentially crime ridden alleys. From the upper walkways of the warehouse, party goers can get hooked into harnesses and swing out over the dance floor. Above them, tributes and VIPS can find themselves on a clear plastic dance floor levitated above everything, looking like they're hanging in air.

Masks are passed out in plenty, and capes are easy to find, while brightly colored drinks themed around super powers are plentiful. None of them actually work, but many of the Capitol people are happy to pretend, mocking super strength or invisibility with each new beverage.

Under the dance floor a catacomb of tunnels and rooms full of obstacles is splashed with black light receptive colors. Party goers are given vests and laser guns, marked green for villains and red for heros, and set loose to hunt each other in the laser tags playground. The screens in the dance floor keep a running tally of which side is winning, displaying the players on the screens around the room, along with clips from the arenas.

About half way through the night, everyone is gathered to the main stage for a special announcement.

THANE KRIOS | pre & post-reaping open

[personal profile] dying 2014-03-27 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Thane doesn't do parties. Too many people for his tastes, too much noise, and the demands of being social. He kept his eyes open, watching around the room. This entire thing made him uneasy, and gave him really bad vibes from the moment it started. He had gotten the impression they viewed everything as an honor, a great event, and the party itself was just the final proof.

Fashion and dressing up for these occasions was an event in of itself. He was dressed up in a form fitting suit. It was dark, and gave him the ability to slide into the shadows without any questions. The fact that it was snug was suited to him, too. he could move fast and easily. No capes, like he had seen on others, no strangely elaborate costumes. The mask, though, he didn't appreciate. It was a little intrusive, and didn't make his vision ideal.

The special announcement drew him in, although he still lingered towards the back when the time for it came. He listened for his name, for Shepard's, and for Garrus'. He also kept his ears ready for anyone else that he had casually spoken to on the network, or that he had seen.

"Oh for crying out loud."

Harley was at her limit. She burst out laughing as she saw Thane and bounced over to him.

"Do you guys even have superheroes on your planet? Ya know? Fictional heroes with powers beyond mere mortal...whatever you ares?" Not the least bit shy about speaking with a stranger, possibly because she always figured she was the strange one in any room.

Thane wasn't sure why the attention was on him. He didn't necessarily understand the reference to his outfit. He watched her for a moment, cautious of anyone who would simply walk up to a random stranger. "Perhaps in stories," Thane answered. Humans always told stories about the super natural, and the superior, but he never really heard the stories.

"Well that's better then nothing." She huffed giving him another appraising look.

"Are you perhaps stoic, sometimes snarky, acrobatic and charming?" She quizzed him with entirely too much weight in her voice. Like this might be the most important question he ever answers.

"I am none of the above," Thane answered. It was an odd series of questions. Perhaps others would consider him these things, at least in part. Especially acrobatic, but he didn't feel that he should indulge in any of his skills with someone who could potential murder him the next time they were in an arena.

"Bah!" She threw her hands up once again in frustration.

"This is just irritatingly creepy now. I mean the least they coulda done was pair up the right hero or villain outfit with the right tributes. You GOTTA be charming and snarky if you're gonna be Nightwing." She complained.

"Then again with your voice charming might be a stretch. Did you get stabbed in the throat or something?" Harley, ever the polite one.

A single eyebrow raised from behind the mask. If he had known the uncanny resemblance to an individual from home, he would have had a proper response, and perhaps understood why he was in this outfit. But he didn't.

"I'm not certain who Nightwing is." There were no reasons to address her comment regarding his voice.

He didn't really care.

"Oh he's a real kick." Harley didn't seem bothered by his not answering. "He's this tall dark mysterious figure right? With long black hair and he fights crime in these cute blue and black tights. Sometimes he wears armor and he's usually hanging around his mentor a guy by the name of Batman."

"He's pretty smooth, there's a long long loooooong list of super powered girls he's gone to bed with. Not me of course but with a cute little toosh like his I can see why it works."

Now that he had an idea as to who it was, he could make some connections to himself when he was young, perhaps. Although he didn't so much as fight crime as...eliminate problems for money.

"I don't as questions, I just wear what I am given." In an effort to not draw attention to himself.

She rolled her eyes in a exaggerated fashion "Well gee aren't you a good little boy...you are a boy aren't ya? Never seen a...what-ever-you-are before so for all I know you're the Queen of the species."

"I would prefer not to make myself a target," Thane answers. He decided against addressing any thoughts regarding his gender. After all, it was non of her business or her problem.
revvinguptheharley: (Harlequin: orly eyebrow?)

[personal profile] revvinguptheharley 2014-04-22 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"The harder you try to avoid that the bigger a target you are." Harley sighed "Don't you know anything about humans? We always go out of our way to irritate the people who try to avoid us the most!"

At least that was what she was going to say for now. It wasn't always true not even with her. But what did he know? He didn't even know who Nightwing was.

Thane was not bothered. He barely even reacted to what she had said. Being a target never really bothered him. There was nothing anyone could hold over his head. Shepard was capable of defending herself. Death didn't frighten him - it never had. "I have spent much of my time with humans," Thane answered.

It was his way of answering her...question. It was barely even a question. It sounded like an accusation.

[personal profile] revvinguptheharley 2014-04-24 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"You can spend a lifetime with humans and not learn about them." Harley countered rolling her eyes and folding her arms in disapproval. "Of course if you're not in this to win it then there's no reason to."

[personal profile] dying 2014-04-28 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Not that Thane disagreed, but he was not about to share. He was really indifferent to the whole thing. His statement stood. For him, many species weren't that different from each other. They all died when he snapped their neck.

"It isn't about if you're in it here. It isn't about skill." Luck. Luck was everything.

"If that's the way you think, you'll be letting down your district really fast." Harley chirped cheerfully.

Truth be told she didn't care one way or another in the luck vs. skill debate. But this guy was annoying her so she turned on the cheerfulness full power.

"All those people going hungry all because you couldn't be bothered to care."

[personal profile] dying 2014-04-30 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Thane, in a way, did care about winning - if only to not paint a target on his back for the time being. He could handle himself for the sake of the arena.

The plight of the districts was out of his control and no fault of his own. He only cared in his desire to make the universe a better place. But by fixing things here, and only here, he was doing little. It was, in the end, not his problem to deal with.

He was not there to argue his point, just pass on what he had heard and experienced. "Is that what they told you to get you to fight?" Thane asked.

Harley made a noise from her lips and then giggled.

"Oh like I needed motivation. I'm a documented lunatic and would have joined the fight just for fun! That's what's most important to me. That and of course..." She fluttered her eyelashes and purred at him.

"Love~"

[personal profile] dying 2014-05-06 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Great.

Thane had known lunatics (although only ever briefly - they were often murdered quickly). He wasn't up for playing with one. He folded his arms over his chest and stepped back, away from her. "Of course...love." It wasn't like he didn't understand the tone.

"I see how this is." He was not amused or impressed. "It isn't my place to judge." But oh, he was judging.

"Oh like that's ever stopped anyone." Harley rolled her eyes in an exaggerated manner.

"So what exactly is it if you see how it is?" She challenged with her hands on her hips. "No seriously I've lost track of what we're talking about. Do you see how this moment here is or love is or..." She laughed.
dying: (pic#7275962)

[personal profile] dying 2014-05-10 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I see that having a conversation with a lunatic proves only fruitless," Thane answered. His tone showed no signs of impatience or frustration. It wtas as even as it usually was.

"It has nothing to do with love."
revvinguptheharley: (Harley: Nyah nyah!)

[personal profile] revvinguptheharley 2014-05-10 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Aw too bad. Love really is the best of things." She sighed happily.

"And let's be real, anything can be fruitful if you're creative enough. You're just boring...despite how startling you appear." She stuck her tongue out in defiance of his claim.
dying: (Default)

[personal profile] dying 2014-05-12 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't care if she found him boring. In fact, he preferred it. Whether or not she liked him meant little to him. There were so few people that Thane cared about how they felt. Kolyat. Shepard. The list was short, as long as he could work with the others on the Normandy, it didn't matter.

"I think I will have to decide if this is worthwhile in time."
revvinguptheharley: (Harley: Duh)

[personal profile] revvinguptheharley 2014-05-12 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Well don't take too long." She chided him. "Life is too short to close yourself off from experiences that could be different and fun."

This was more an effort of irritation now, she couldn't help but enjoy forcing her presence on those without a clear sense of humor. But there was many more people in familiar costumes she'd have to harass. So as quickly as she appeared she had vanished into the crowd.
