Valentine's Day Boogaloo

WHO| Capitol characters and returned Tributes
WHAT| Valentine's day field trips!
WHEN| Week 4
WHERE| Tribute Center
WARNINGS| One of the options involves mild kink setup.

Rumors are flying around the Capitol about the 'dream tech' from Enjolras' crowning earlier, rumors that confirm that those Tributes who found themselves trapped in nightmares were the unfortunate victims of a glitch. Supposedly, the technology was recalled, and a new version should hit the commercial market sometime next year.

On Valentine's Day, Tributes in the Capitol are expected to cooperate with what the Escorts call 'a fantastical romantic dream' out of one side of their mouths and 'an uncompensated computer experiment' on the other. Eager to diversify their data, little white-coated scientists with tablets and clipboards lure in Citizens, Peacekeepers, Escorts, Visitors, Mentors, and anyone with a pulse to participate too. Participation isn't mandatory, but supposedly people who join in will be heartily rewarded for their contributions.

It'll be just like last time, the scientists and Escorts say, but better.

Participants are brought to their rooms with several Avoxes and a handful of scientists each. They are laid out in their bed, and a needle is slipped into their vein. As the chill settles into their bodies, electrodes are placed on their heads.

They fall asleep, and they wake up surrounded by other participants in one of five lifelike virtual scenarios.

1. The Beach

It's sunset on a gorgeous white-sand beach. The sun is setting, throwing brilliant color all over the water, and in the background some samba music is playing. Participants are barefoot and in sarongs or swim shorts, and fruity cocktails seem to appear from nowhere whenever the participants so much as think of thirst. The water is warm, and dolphins leap from the waves in the distance. Some of them swim up close enough to pet.

2. The Ballroom

A beautiful ballroom is filled with red heart-shaped balloons and romantic music. Participants are paired up in twos by shadowy figures and asked to waltz. The champagne flows freely, and partway through the night a disco ball above explodes into miniature white doves. Participants are dressed in outfits made entirely of diamonds and wisps of pink clouds, like cotton candy.

3. The Canals

Participants sit in a long canoe traveling along the canals of a clearly historical city, run-down but recently spruced up with paint and balloons. The sun is rising, and the pink dawn is reflected in the perfectly still water. Little h'ors d'euvres are sitting on tiny plates in the gondola, pieces of cheese and bread and tiny cups of gelato. In the distance, someone sings about 'l'amor'.

The gondolier is an Avox, so your mileage may vary on how romantic that is.

4. The Opera

Participants sit side-by-side in plush velvet seats in a huge opera house (the other seats are taken by nondescript shadows of people who seem to vanish if they're looked at too long). A beautiful female opera singer serenades the participants one by one, often by climbing onto their laps and providing them with kisses along the cheekbones. Between acts, the opera transforms into a dance club, with pounding electro songs about heartbeats.

5. The Candlelit Dinner in the Bedroom

A small table is set up inside a hotel room. Fat lobsters with sauce are laid out on plates next to bowls of soup, and fine wine bottles sit next to glasses so clean they sparkle. A huge four-poster bed with sheer curtains sits in the center of the room, next to a window portraying a full moon and a magnificent skyline. Constellations of hearts abound in the night. Rose petals are strewn throughout the room, which is lit by red and white candles.

Next to the bed is a mahogany dresser, and if one looks inside they will find all manner of sexy lingerie. There are some toys - fuzzy pink handcuffs, a tickler feather - but nothing too risque.

[OOC: Please select one of the options below for your character to have a 'slightly too crowded to be romantic' field trip. Then tag around in your option. The reward will be revealed at tonight's death roll.]

Re: THE OPERA

Theater had always been a secret passion of Azula's. There was something to admire about actors as they made their lively hood telling entertaining lies in front of large crowds.

Singing actors were a step further because they had to entice you to accept a world where dialogue flowed seamlessly into choreographed musical numbers. The Opera was yet another step because of how elaborate and sometimes difficult to grasp the dialogue could be given the nature of the music.

She would never admit it, but it was one of the few things she had picked up from her mother. The woman had always had a fondness for live theater as well and would often drag them to live performances or bring them videos of theater performances that would never find their way out to district five

However, Azula did not like to be touched. Especially not by someone acting as familiar as this singer. As soon as she was shoved out of Azula's lap unceremoniously crashing to the ground the world shifted to the skull pounding dimly lit nightclub.

Azula flinched at the sharp change and glowered at anyone who might be laughing at her being kissed on the cheek by the imaginary singer. She needed a drink and she needed it now.

I'm so sorry. .....Not really.

"Not much of an improvement, I have to say," came the drawl from a nearby seat, louder than the silken purr usually went to be heard over the pounding bass. Light flashing off his pale hair, streaks of bloody red and noxious green, Wesker smirked. A painfully amused expression. "But I'll give you points for the effort."

Never be sorry for the glory that is Wesker.

Azula was surprised at first to be addressed by one of the newer mentors to join the ranks, but when it was clear he was speaking to her she gave him a very dry look.

"As much as I appreciate points in any sort of game, I can't and won't take credit for this sudden shift to chaos and noise." She had been having such a nice time at the opera too.

Unwilling to wait for a drink from the bar she seized a glass from one of the tables right out of the hand of an imaginary woman who was about to drink it. The dream didn't see fit to correct this and so the woman continued her drinking motion without a drink in hand. It was a little unsettling to watch but Azula was more focused on sipping the drink herself to take some of the edge off.

Wesker's fingers rap-tap-tapped on the plush arm of the loveseat, a rhythm directly at odds with the hard beat - the cadence of boredom.

"I distinctly remember being promised there would be no more setbacks," he murmured idly, eyes behind the dark lenses narrowing against the sharp flashes of light. Occasionally one would backlight the sunglasses, revealing his two-toned eyes in glowing relief. "Thus far I'd say this one is more disappointing than the last."

The last world had been his own, and despite the unfortunate circumstances, he was, of course, still able to conquer it.

"Oh, did you get a chance to experience the setbacks last time?" Azula had been lucky and avoided such displeasure, but she had her own demons to deal with at the time.

"What was it like?" Some of the tributes had shared their stories afterwards. Azula had mostly hoped to use it as a learning opportunity for her own district. They were not interested.

"I went home," he said, as if that explained it all. "I'm afraid I missed nearly all of the Crowning festivities."

Though, from what he'd learned after the fact, he hadn't missed much of anything.
burnedbrighter: (put it in my hand)

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-15 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
"You hardly missed anything worth mentioning." Azula confirmed looking irritated again. "Just the glory of my district's first victory under my guidance being sullied by the winner being one of the biggest fools to come from another world to ours."

Azula is clearly still fairly bitter about the now infamous refusal of Enjolaras to participate in his duties as mentor.

"Useless boy." she spat before finishing the rest of her drink in a swig.

His mouth twitched, dry amusement. "Not living up to expectations, is he?"

As her glass tipped level, it filled again, a blueish liquid that glowed faintly in the strobing lights. A little lubrication never hurt.

"I must say, I was quite surprised by his victory."

He hadn't even made Wesker's short-list.
burnedbrighter: bitterfire (How about a magic trick?)

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-15 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
"We all were."

When it had happened Azula had sang his praises for a short time and put up a front of respect but he had worn all that away and now she was happy to inform anyone just how useless and worthless he was.

"But that is part of the "fun" of the games. Sometimes the odds can favor even the most unlikely of victors."

Much to her eternal dismay. She waved down a server to fetch her another drink. What came back was a clear liquid that was lit on fire. Blue flame danced on the surface before she blew it out and took a sip.

"Not like you. I've seen your tapes. It's a wonder you didn't win sooner."

[personal profile] president_evil 2014-02-15 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not for lack of trying, I assure you," he murmured, watching her antics with mild interest. "The odds simply weren't in my favor."

The Capitol, more like, stacking them against him - especially in his first arena. Throw in amongst the rabble, with no preparation, no warning. His body still humming with the sudden silence, his powers stolen away.

"I corrected it as soon as I was able."
burnedbrighter: (cherry pucker)

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-15 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
And much faster then some of the others." She agreed. "But you've already received your praise and reward so I won't waste further time with ego stroking. Especially not when I'm trapped in some godawful nightmare of bass pulses waiting for the Opera to begin again.

That and she may be irritated with how things are going but that doesn't mean she's going to fraternize with one of the more dangerous mentors and give away too much. Leave that up to her curly haired compatriate who simply couldn't stop himself from finding new ways to upset her.

[personal profile] president_evil 2014-02-15 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Smarter than Wesker had given her credit for, wasn't she?

He appreciated an armed opponent.

"Then perhaps we should discuss those who haven't had the pleasure yet," he grinned, a sharp pull of his lip. "Anyone in particular have your eye this round?"

burnedbrighter: [info]el_hustino (Where is Harvy Dent?)

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-15 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Deciding she was apparently going to keep talking with him despite knowing it wasn't a great idea Azula took her seat across from him.

"Well I wouldn't want to be so obvious as to favor my own tributes over all the others so taking them out of the equation..." She looked thoughtful.

"Aunamee has proven himself resourceful and ruthless but he's made far too many enemies. The boy Howard in particular has garnered alot of support despite how he foolishly flaunts his personal business for all to see."

It was inevitable of course that the public would get to their dirty laundry but he didn't have to make it so easy.

"If I were to guess, one of the most likely victors would be the man Wyatt. He has popular favor, he's skilled. But most importantly he fights for something greater then himself."

She would leave that alone to see what Wesker would come up with."
president_evil: (weskerDesk)

[personal profile] president_evil 2014-02-16 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aunamee will never be a victor," Wesker replied, all the flat conviction of a man who knew it to be truth. "It's undeniable-" as annoying as he found it, "-that the man has talent, but, as you so keenly pointed out, he is his own undoing. Mixing himself up in petty squabbles, loosing sight of the greater picture...."

A glass of wine appeared on the low glass table before them. Wesker shifted to pick it up without breaking flow.

"The boy is clever, I'll give him that, but weak. He gets as far as he does on the back of others. Including, the mentioned Mr. Earp."

Which, it went without saying, was Wyatt's failing. Letting himself be used.

His nobility would be of little use to him six feet under.

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-17 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Using others has been a time honored tradition among potential victors." Azula reasoned, feeling somewhat vindicated by the appearance of wine and she ordered her own with a flick of her long manicured fingers.

"The seemingly random placement of tributes among the districts has greatly improved the chances of some previously weaker districts. Before this never ending celebration of technology and bloodshed the favored Districts were almost always one through four. You'd get winners from all districts of course but none nearly as often. It's thrown many of our best statisticians off years of calculations."
president_evil: (weskerSmirk)

[personal profile] president_evil 2014-02-17 12:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"How upsetting for them," Wesker drawled, sounding hardly sympathetic. "At least our poor, representative districts seem to be enjoying themselves."

All these strangers dying in their children's places; reaping the measly rewards of their victories.

"And I must say," here he smiled, a brief, sharp affair, "There is something rather satisfying about being the first victor in years."
burnedbrighter: (cherry pucker)

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-17 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"I imagine you were given quite the welcome in your district during the tour?" Would that she could say the same. Her welcoming was loud but lacked the warmth and sincerity she desired. She had come to accept now it would never come. The ungrateful peasants of District five would never see her for her strength. They would only ever see the blood soaked monster who murdered one of their own while he slept.
president_evil: (weskerSauve)

[personal profile] president_evil 2014-02-17 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm afraid I didn't get to spend much time at all with them." Not that he was complaining from a personal standpoint. He was interested in only the most technical of senses, wanting to know how the District functioned, how the Capitol depended on it. How they controlled it. "The natives were kept quite busy during our stay, even during the tribute dinner."

A polite way of describing how they'd been forced out into the fields, how they'd been turned away from any real interaction with the tributes.

The Capitol's desperation palpable.
burnedbrighter: (Can you believe this guy?)

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-17 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is that so?" Interesting. They hadn't done nearly as much to suppress the population of District five. Then again it's not like Wesker's district was a career district either.

"Was the dinner at least not offensive compared to Capitol fare?"
president_evil: (weskerThrone)

[personal profile] president_evil 2014-02-17 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, very impressive," he nodded, sipping red wine through his teeth. "They allowed us a whole building, just to ourselves, every floor offering different fare."

All of it tasting the same to Wesker. A gray sort of nothingness on his tongue.

"I'll give them credit where it's due."
burnedbrighter: (Can you believe this guy?)

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-18 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
She had to admit it sounded nicer then the more casual friendly party they had been granted. But Azula was snooty like that.

"Well you are surely a gentlemen victor for your fair measure of their offerings." She praised.

A thought occurred to her, one that she was surprised hadn't come sooner. "I wonder." She began, "Many of us spend the rest of our lives as mentors because we feel an obligation to our district. Do you intend to do the same? Or will you seek out other entertainments and challenges now that you are free from the arena?"
president_evil: (weskerSmirk2)

[personal profile] president_evil 2014-02-19 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Is there some reason why I can't do both?" he asked, blond head tipping. "If a conflict of interest is the concern, I assure them I am quite capable of keeping hold of more than one thought at time."

Was that one of the biggest parts of being Chairman? Maintaining Umbrella's glowing public opinion, even tore the world out from same?

Did he not do it now? Playing the Capitol's game even as he amused himself with images of gutting Snow slowly?

"I would so hate to miss all these new opportunities so graciously afforded to me."
burnedbrighter: (smirkity smirk)

[personal profile] burnedbrighter 2014-02-19 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Such ambition." She commented with a hint of admiration. "Would that all our tributes would be so strong. But I suppose every good story needs an underdog, and some losers."

Of course she knew the Capitol did not necessarily reward ambition the way she'd once believed. If that were the case would she have been so carelessly thrown back into the arena? So painfully brought back to life? Not likely.

"But the question then becomes if you multitask so much are you really getting the complete experience? Or just bits of everything."
president_evil: (weskerSmirk2)

[personal profile] president_evil 2014-02-20 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I would rather that," Wesker told her, "than miss something because I was growing contented and sedentary."

A flash of teeth as his mouth curled, wine swirling in a bloody wave in his glass.

"If you don't look, you'll never see anything."

A chill settled on her shoulders and she resisted a shiver though her muscles tightened ever so slightly and she couldn't help but offer an oily smile.

"You remind me of my father. The two of you would either get along very well...or kill each other."

Her money was on the tall dark stranger from another world, but that was purely out of spite.

The bell chimed softly letting the patrons know the next act of the Opera would be starting soon.
