Karkat wasn't on her team, given a group of his own and his own speech yet to be made, but Shepard still stood as his teacher, his trainer, and for that he held respect. Without him knowing her or asking she had dashed in during his first full arena and fought off a stranger for his sake - died for his sake - and sassed him about it after. It took some kind of special to do that, and a while a part of him still felt in her debt, it was more the respect and a hope for solidity that brought him to her after her words.

"Have you done this before?" he asked, stepping in near after her charges had had their chance to ask what they wanted.

He probably looked silly, done up in drag as per Jolie's disguising talents, but that wasn't on his mind.

"I assume the whole 'Commander' thing didn't fall out of your ass, but you never know." His tone was light, but transparently so; it was too hard not to be nervous about something like this.

"Karkat, back home I was a Spectre, which meant leading small teams into deadly circumstances was pretty much the short version of my job description. If I was captured back then, I'd probably face at least as much punishment as we do now-- and if I weren't captured and still lost? I'd be dead. This is real life, now; I've done a lot of this, before," She shifted her weight, and her smile held weight; there was no paper shield over her emotions now, Shepard was happy. Genuinely happy to be here, doing arguably the craziest thing she'd done since arriving in Panem, "But if you're asking about suicide missions, then yeah, I've done that too."

She's a full-package risk-taker.

"Believe me when I say, the impossible can happen. Do your job, don't waste the lives of your men, and we might just come out of this winners. Remember the goal, kid?"
